Scunthorpe last night admitted they have not given up their summer-long pursuit of Jimmy McNulty.

But Albion report no formal offers for either their left-back or James Tunnicliffe.

Both defenders were left out of Saturday’s 1-0 friendly win at Burgess Hill due to speculation over their future.

McNulty was on loan at Scunthorpe last season. Iron boss Nigel Adkins recently took Eddie Nolan, a versatile defender who can play on the left, on loan from Preston but he admits that does not mean he no longer needs a specialist left back.

Adkins said: “I would love to bring Jimmy McNulty here. There’s business going on behind the scenes to try to make things happen but we have to make sure it’s right for all parties concerned.”

Scunthorpe are unwilling to pay a large fee but hope they could pick up a relative bargain if they bide their time.

Competition for defensive berths at Albion will increase when Gordon Greer finally completes his switch from Swindon today.

Greer’s medical was delayed yesterday but paperwork is due to be completed this morning.

It is unclear whether Greer will play against Whitehawk tonight.

Diego Arismendi, who spent the end of last season with Albion, has joined Barnsley from Stoke City on a season-long loan. Albion boss Gus Poyet revealed in The Argus recently he was unlikely to take the Uruguayan midfielder back.

Meanwhile former Albion winger Seb Carole is looking for a club after plans to train with Albion fell through.

Carole, who is back home in Leeds, said: “I’m training on my own, doing some running, but it’s hard. I’m looking everywhere. It would be fantastic to stay in England but you never know.”

Ex-Seagulls defender Adam Virgo is still training with Yeovil in a bid to earn a contract.

The offer for training "fell through"?

Bit odd that! (odd way of saying it anyway). It implies that it just kinda didn't happen and surely if you're a pro out of contact you wouldn't let that happen?!

Maybe if he lives in Leeds it was too far to travel if they wouldn't pay accommodation or trainfare?

On Saturday McNulty was gutted not to be playing, and he said he didnt want leave, but maybe has no choice, as he got the hint when he was walking round the pitch instead of strutting his stuff on it.

He said he would rather a loan move than a permenant one, also said Scunthorpe was a bit grim

Carole lives near me in Wetherby. Its a long way South and I doubt he would up sticks if there wasn't a strong chance that he would get at least a years contract.

His kids are at School just up the road and its always an upheaval to take them out and start somewhere afresh.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him at York City to be honest. Good luck to the fella.
