This was featured in the Metro newspaper this morning, and I seriously thought it was a wind-up. But no. It's 'scuba' without the mask or breathing apparatus; you can wear glasses etc underwater and you needn't even get your hair wet.

Surely it's suss?! :lolol:

Great Idea until someone drives in into sharp coral and the tank explodes. Or someone uses it without a safely line, and goes to deep and it just sinks into an Abyss.

That was I was thinking. They claim you don't need to be a strong swimmer. But what if something goes wrong and you crash? You'd be pretty f*cked, surely?

I can't see anyone that is a scuba diving fan, wanting one of those.

Not exactly practical!

As you say, you would be pretty stuck if there was a malfunction, whilst deep in the ocean.

And surely, the whole thing about scuba is that it's kind of hands-on - you're not supposed to handle coral etc but you at least get a proper sensation of swimming amongst the fish etc. In that bike thingie, how would you simulate that? ???

They're not built to go deep, only for shallow waters - normally in enclosed areas. I've seen them being used while on holiday and people did enjoy them. I'll stick to the BCD, regulator and octopus though.

A muppet on one of those could do a lot of damage to coral, or themselves if the water was deep. Can't see experienced divers wanting to use one.

Oh Jesus, that looks like a recipe for disaster. Novice divers are quite often a liability but an inexperienced diver on one of these things!

That's why they got Andy Johnson to test pilot it.
