Sadly about the only thing he managed to get on target all night. Did he actually complete a pass ?

Several link ups with Whing (who incidently is quality, in the Neville mould, just not as good!) in the second half???

Erm, yes. He's not a winger though.

Very cryptic comments by Dean Wilkins on SCR afterwards about Jake. Perhaps his first truly big man management challenge if we leave aside the false start with Hendo.

I watched Jake tonight and just wished he just had the close control and technique of his mate Dean Cox, then he would be among the first names on the team sheet, rather than the Jeckyl and Hyde figure we currently have, brilliance mixed in with lightweight sloppiness.

Care to elaborate for those who didn't hear?

yeah, maybe he didn't have a chair in his room...

Paraphrasing, it was along the lines of him having to work harder in training as he is not acheiving his potential, expressed in more carefully worded language than that though, I'm sure Naylor will pick up on it in the Argus tomorrow and you can see the exact quote.

What's the history with Wilkins + Robinson , the Interview with DW + JR was both a bit cagey. I sensed something is going on there ? am i reading to much into things ?

I think a lot of people miss the point with Jake, he is a striker who can do a decent job on the right wing. His technique and passing aren't on the same level as Cox but Cox is a midfielder so that is to be expected. However Jake's movement, pace, touch and finishing are all very good, all the attributes needed to be a striker. Michael Owen in his prime was never the best technically but that didn't matter as his main job was to find space and run onto balls. I can see Jakey doing a similar job for us.

I think him and Revell would be a great combination.

Here's the Jake thing, quote by Wilkins at the end, preceded by an interesting one from Jake about his relationship not being as strong with Wilkins because he was promoted to the first team perhaps too quickly, unlike Cox, Lynch et al.

My take on it is that he is saying he wasn't given the time to develop in the youth team like Cox, Lynch etc as he was thrown in the deep end. I'm not sure he's saying anything about his relationship with Deano. There's clearly a barrier between them though, which I hope we fix because I think we need Jake's pace up-front

I think it is strange that Wilkins didn't use Jake more when he first took over because Jake would thrive in that quick passing game. If you look at say Arsenal with Henry or United with Cole and Yorke those teams had pace and movement upfront to complement their slick passing, because they give options and an outlet for that sort of game. Whilst Revell works hard his pace and movement aren't on same level as Jake.
