What was so bad about it?

I worked out of Scrabster for a while and would go along with most others, Thurso, Dunnett Head, JOG, Wick all pretty miserable.

One thing we did a while ago that was great was a ferry from Ullapool across to Stornaway then a ticket that included all your ferry tickets right down through all the Outer Hebrides finishing up in Barra and a ferry back across to Oban.

More recently we’ve had a couple of holidays near Aberlour. Speyside is lovely and a bit more going on than some places around the North of Scotland if that what you’re after.

Scrabster? You must have eaten at the Upper Deck then? :)

I agree with you about Speyside, it’s beautiful. I go up a couple of times a year to fish the Castle Water, staying at Fochabers (which is also a bit grey for my liking.)

May is my favourite time, the intoxicating smell of wild flowers along the banks has to be experienced to be believed.

The more further north you go the fewer B&B type options you have so you may need to book ahead. In the bigger places you would be better off. The key determinant is time of year, during the summer everyone is super busy and I think it would be a real gamble to just turn up. If you did April/May or September/October and you would stand a real good chance.

That is all just conjecture however as I have young kids so we always need to pre-book!

Very useful info, thanks!
