Why on earth would Bridcutt offer himself for Scotland? That would be a terrible decision.

Lets face it, he wont get any more than a handfull of caps for England at best, he could have a long run in the Scotland squad.
Also, if he didnt make the Scotland squad why will he make the English one?

Chris Powell didn't make his England debut until he was 31, he had to work his way up to that level. Bridcutt could play England eventually, he'll be a Premier League player within a couple of years, when he'll be 24/25. I wouldn't rush into switching allegiance, but the opportunity to play International football would be difficult to turn down. Not an issue at the moment though.
Not calling up Greer is bizarre, they must have been watching Mackail-Smith, surely they noticed Greer?!

That's the decision he has to make, isn't it? Does he want a long established International career -he might rack up 50 or more caps for Scotland, and get the chance to play around the world (but not in any major tournaments!), or say no, in the hope of fulfilling a dream of playing one day for England, even though it might just be for one or two freindlies, or possibly might never happen at all.

From what I remember in the Argus story it was more Scotland looking at him and realising that he could play for them rather than him saying I want to be Scottish!
Chris Powell, as an example, simply highlights the decision to be made. I don't know his background, but let's say for argument's sake, he was qualified to play for Trinidad and Tobago. Had he tied his colours to that mast early on, he might have won 100 caps, playing in exotic locations around the CONCACAF region, and perhaps at a world cup. Instead he waits all his career to get a call from England, and ends up with 5 appearances at the arse end of his career.
His grandfather is Scottish, so he already knew himself, and has publically stated that he IS hoping for a call up.
Racist.

Well obviously he knew his family history, I hadnt realised that he was putting himself up for Scottish selection.
If you believe the Argus, he has. I think you are right though - they made the first move, but he has welcomed their attention.

I would rather go for 50 Scotland caps than 5 England ones if Im honest.

Watched the programme on telly about the 70's last night - great footage of the hype about the Tartan army setting off to win the '78 World Cup but getting knocked out early on. Ally McCleod with his head in his hands against a soundtrack of 'Don't cry for me Argentina' etc. Yet Scotland had a decent squad too.
I won't mention that England failed to qualify..............ooops.
