And with Gary on the management team. It's not like Scholes has to worry about saving himself for his club career any more.

Definitely would take him. First two games play him alongside Parker with Gerrard in front behind a striker. Then use him as sub for the later games when Rooney is back and gerrard back in the middle.

It depends what squad Hodgson wants to take. If he is going for the best squad for this tourniment and aiming to win then yes, he should go. If however, he is taking a squad for the future (Which I think he should) then I dont think he should go because what can he really pass on in terms of experiance having not played for England for 10 years and he will also be taking the place of a player who could gain valuable experiance for Brazil 2014.

I think we should be building for the future. Therefore, I would only take Scholes if the rest of the squad is relatively young - his experience will benefit the youngsters coming through. If we just take a squad of older players to the Euros, I believe we will suffer in the 2014 World Cup.

I'd have him over Gerrard any day.

I think there's space for experience in the squad.

Why are so few people mentioning Leon Britton for the England squad though?

I would like to start Scholes every game, but only if we had a fully fit Wiltshire or Hargreaves to do all the running for him. We have GARETH BARRY.

We looked WOEFUL against pace in 2010, the last thing we need is a slow central midfield playing 4-4-2.

451/433 with plenty of pace in the team, please.

His pass rate is second to none, four seasons running he has a 90% completion rate. A lot of the time it is only short balls but they go to where they are intended and not many can say that. He has also only been tackled once in every 95 minutes! For the really big games, I don't think he is quite up to it, pace wise, especially against the likes of City, Chelsea and Arsenal. England are playing France, Sweden and Ukraine, so no easy game and keeping the ball is surely be a must, so for that reason I would take him. I do want to see a new young team getting experience for the next World Cup but a couple of experienced players will always be needed.

Completely and utterly pointless taking him. We are not going to win the competition, with or without him, and no way is he going to be around for future England squads, so forget him.

Cant see why you wouldn't take him. He can still dictate any match, and controls the flow of the game from midfield. Brings needed experience into the team and his passing is up there with Xavi and Iniesta. Must take.

He said No to his country. Time for new blood.

Agree with these two. He was excellent in the past and can still do the job in most Premiership games. However, in the title decider against Man City a couple of weeks back, he was well off the pace. And importantly, City are packed with the sort of international players that he would be up against at the Euros.

We're not going to win the tournament, so I hope RH takes a young team.
