I must get 10 calls a day from people about this company. Has anybody joined it and can see the benefits? As soon as they say who they are from I say not interested and put the phone down.

You are right to put the phone down, BG, and you could try blocking them with Telephone Preference. Doubt if there are any benefits and many of these phone calls are a scam. Keep your savings where they are (or maybe try under the mattress as understand you get a better rate of interest there!!).

The call guardian ! does it allow 1 call to identify the number and then set it to bar future calls.

Yes you can, a great peice of kit, would well recommend investing in one. My father used to get cold calls every evening. This stopped as soon as he used new phone.

I enjoy these calls sometimes. Provides me with something to do and to argue with when I am having a slow day. If they are an actual company just ask to be taken off their list, if they call you again then you can make a compalint against them. Some have claimed compensation as well

You can also just block them.

I often make the complaints as otherwise they won't go away (I appreciate that just my complaint won't make the difference but it makes me feel better)

Also bamboozle them with acts and legislation that probably does exist but you don't know for certain. Such as when they say they have been passed information about an accident, I always annoy them by saying I have a legal right to see that information, and I expect it to be sent to me immediately. They get confused and then question whether they were lying and if so that they are breaking a law then. It's nice when someone is clearly new to it and gets flustered/upset. Makes me feel like I am giving them free career advice

I tend to find that using an extremely low tone of voice interspersed with bouts of heavy breathing and then followed up with 'I don't have many friends, will you be my friend ?' tends to do the trick. Don't get many ringing back

I'm with Happypig on this one. I tried call guardian from BT, Saved all the numbers i wanted. Come home yesterday, missed 5 calls from a 000 number (from India) It had blocked them all.
Call Guardian is free for 12 months from BT as well.

My landline, mobile and broadband are all with Vodafone due to cost and getting a good deal. For my land line I use a Binatone 2 phone system but have a single phone in a bedroom. If I changed that one to a call barring phone would that stop the calls coming into the flat on the other phones or just to that one.

Savers Club is a Trade Union idea and I believe the RMT are using it at the moment to raise funds for the Guards who are losing wages from the strikes so if you can join and donate a few quid it would be much appreciated

Or the employers sack them all for failing to turn up to perform the duties they are paid for then they can draw unemployment pay,

There are three types of call: Blocked, Allowed and Unknown. Blocked will be hung up on by the machine and you wont know. Allowed will ring all phones. Unknown will be answered by the call guardian and the caller is offered the opportunity to announce themselves; if they do, then the guardian (only) rings and you get the option to speak to them, send them to the answer machine or bar them.
You can get multiple handset versions of the guardian phones.
