A European super league will change the whole dynamics of football. I would almost welcome it, as it would give clubs like Notts Forest, Leicester, Ipswich, Luton and dare i say it Brighton a chance to win some honours, like the 70s 80's era.

If 6 clubs joined that, Everton with their billionaire owners would win it, with some other FFP cheats joining the melee. Villa would be a prime candidate.

It’s been talked about for 25 years.

I think the PL will stay, with the likes of ManU in it.

So Newcastle actually ended up making a cool £17m out of this prolonged fiasco. For nothing.

Mike Ashley is a genius.

Ashley might be a shit of a human being (allegedly) but has he been such a bad owner as all the protesting Geordies would have you believe? Newcastle United are in the PL - they have dipped down to the second tier from time to time, but have pretty much bounced straight back up, and they've now been three seasons in lower mid-table in the PL. Yes, they are a big club - they've spent more seasons than most in the top flight, but they haven't actually ever won much.
It's nearly a hundred years since they won the league, more than 60 since they won the cup, and more than fifty since they won a major trophy (the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup - I don't count stuff like the intertoto or the Anglo-Italian!) Sure, they won the Championship 3 years ago, but only because a certain bunch of southern players were prematurely on the beach and handed them the title!
So what do they expect of Ashley? They're still in the PL, they're doing pretty much as well as they've ever done in the last 50 years (bar a couple of almost successful years under Keegan) - what exactly is the beef? He has actually put a few millions in, hasn't he?

Well done to the 3% who didn't want it.

If that man had taken over here I would never set foot inside the stadium again.

Let's face it this is hilarious. Geordies crying into their bar code shirts because they won't be the latest club to be run by a murderous Middle Eastern state and therefore actually have a chance of proving their hugeness (c.f. Wednesday and Leeds) with their first proper trophy since, er, 1955.

I do feel slightly sorry for them having to put up with Ashley again though. Absolute scumbag of a man in my opinion. You can tell what he thinks of football fans just by where he's put the away end at SJP.

I feel sorry for their fans. True and respectful. I recall when we were promoted to the old Division One they were our last match of the season at St James Park and we won the match and the team did a lap of honour where the Geordies stood and applauded them. Still respect them for that. Even had one ask to swap colours outside who was big enough to step on me! Sympathy from me lads.

But as for Mike Ashley - ooops that’s a shame Mike......!!

I would also feel sorry for their fans if they actually did something about their situation.
They are the biggest bunch of two-faced idiots in the country.

Spend six and a half days a week for 8 years moaning about the chairman.
Then for the other half day give him all their money.

Fudge'um.

While I have sympathy for their fans to some extent it does seem a bit OTT. They're lower mid table, they've gone down a few times but got promoted straight away, he's not spent loads but they don't have much debt and have their own ground. He's not a great owner and I'd be unhappy but he's not asset stripping. Just looking at current in owners and compared to Wigan,Hull, Coventry, Charlton they don't have much to complain about

They were applauding because our promotion prevented Sunderland going up.

Correct. As soon as we got outside, they wanted to kill us. Remember me and my mate being chased down this road by loads of them. Luckily me and Dan were sprint champions at our school Newman.

Really good news for Newcastle fans that they arn't being taken over by a sports-washing PetroState.

They get to remain a proper club and should be celebrating this all summer.

Reading those replies to the tweet, it is hard not to feel enormous sympathy for the long-suffering Newcastle fans who have had such a hard time of it. It is disgraceful that they haven't won anything for 50 years. The PL should immediately put that right.

They aren't happy though. Willing to overlook the terrible indiscretions of the prospective new owner in the chase for $$$.

Caught a bit of Jim Shite on TalkShite last night banging on about this, effectively siding with the Saudis and Staveley saying she was "tearful" and distraught that the deal hadn't been done. The deal that THEY decided to walk away from. He effectively put the blame at the door of the PL, even though he didn't really know the inner workings of the deal and conversations between the takeover team and the people at the PL. He also said that she told him they were going to plough another £200m into the club after taking over, which is REALLY easy to say now!

But if it the deal was legit and all it's cracked up to be, why didn't it go through? Dodgy AF, if you ask me.

Something fishy about this. The deal fell through because the PL were about to declare the prospective owners to be not fit and proper? Just because they deplore human rights, run illegal streams (piracy) and execute a lot of people on a regular basis?

Nah ........... not having that!

They weren't so respectful when they piled into our end after half time, or when they kicked in the door of my dad's car that he leant me for the long drive up!
