Tom Tom if you want something aftermarket. I've got the Sagem that Fiat offered as a built-in option... and its shit. :nono:

Oh, and its trying to kill me.

Ever since I marked a road as closed (Bridge replacement works, 9 months closed...) its trying to send me down a sideline and into the local canal all the time and doesn't stop BITCHING at me for not doing that till I'm at least 100 metres back on its planned course.

What about tunnels like Dartford?Do you lose signal and have to re program it again for your destination?

It stores where you're going, but yes, you lose signal for the time you're in the tunnel.

I've got the Tomtom One and its a cracking bit of kit.

You can also download the speed camera database off the net - this is really useful as it gives a warning and speed for just about every camera in the UK.

Cost me £215 in Argos when it was on offer b4 Xmas - currently nearer £250 but worth shopping around

Radios and phones don't send signals >12,000 miles and rely on line-of-sight.

The only signals you'll get in your average tunnel are "DGPS", Differential GPS signals that are used to increase accuracy in some areas. I think these exist in London, so you might get a reading of some kind.

Is the Tom tom one where you can select either Male or female voices?

Yes, theres British, American, Australian accents not to mention all different languages and you can download various other voices as well.

Apparantley the Ozzy Osbourne one is funny as he will, for example tell you to "Turn left at the next F**king roundabout"

I would recommend TomTom. I plumped for TomTom on a mio168 PDA as it has a built in reciever, but there are others on the market now.

http://www.pdaphone.ch/images/mio168_full.jpg

It means I can take it out the car with minimum of fuss and put it in my pocket when I park. Satnav theft is the new car radio theft!

Edit: And it is easy to upload new voices which you can find free on the internet if you look hard enough. And there are also free downloads for warning of speed camera positions as well!
