I wonder how long he will last.
I don't think the problem at Chelsea is the lack of good quality signings, its more the fact they have too many! Could be a good stepping stone for him to move to a bigger club in a few years time.

Here
Brentford may have their own data but they're not getting any where near the info from Starlizard.
Don't forget their chairman used to work for Starlizard - he left, allegedly, under acrimonious circumstances and there is no love lost between TB and Benhanm

Wonder who we'll get in to replace him?

Are there any obvious Championship clubs who have a reputation of successfully shopping in different markets.

Or possibly someone from a club with a similar model in Europe. Whoever is in charge of recruitment at USG (I know they use the Starlizard data too) is really good.

Correction - he used to own for Premier Bet, the precursor of Starlizard and that was when Benham worked for TB

I'd like to wish Sam luck, but that would be in effect wishing luck on Chelsea. Which I could never do.

And we'll have a replacement ready of course, and a replacement for that replacement, and so on because that's what we do.

But I reject the conclusion that this haemorrhaging of personnel comes damage free or that the sheer rate of loss of key staff is normal.

Presumably that's another £1m from Chelsea.

why do they need a new head of recruitment?

I'd imagine his successor may well be in the club already. Mike Cave is already stepping in similar to David Weir when Ashworth left. When we poached him from Fulham (people forget that we hire people from other clubs too) you'd like to assume that it was with some view on career progression being a factor.

It’s embarrassing how obsessed they are with us. Don’t think the move has worked out for many - would never hear Winstanley getting questioned etc here would you. The poison club full of poison jobs - and Astrid…

FFS I really do hate Chelsea. It's a systematic disassembling of a competitor and it feels like it shouldn't be allowed.
We’d be a lot worse off financially if it wasn’t.

Torn on this one. A real shame it's Chelsea but he's done exceptionally well at the Albion over 8 years and turned down a big move up to Rangers (where he would have been Director of Football) in the summer. I'm sure the club have ramped up the succession planning since then.

Because our head of recruitment is in demand and Boehly NEEDS the toys others want. I've said on here repeatedly that their strategy is "look at who's in demand on the BBC Sport Gossip column and bid, bid, BID!!" It's no surprise that Man United are rumoured to be interest and then, shock-horrow, Chelsea come in.

That and it's looks likely that Kyle MacCaulay may be heading to United sooner rather than later... Maybe that paves the way for a reunion with Potter?

A statement from Brighton said: "Sam has now commenced a period of gardening leave. We thank him for his long service to our club.

"With immediate effect, Mike Cave, assistant technical director, supported by George Holmes, scouting and intelligence manager, will assume Sam’s responsibilities."

Smart statement by the club. Mike is actually in charge of match day travel and George heads up replica kit procurement.

I read that as 'Nick Cave' which I thought was a left-field appointment but given he's local did make some sense.

I agree. It's why I've written to Paul Barber today to ask that we send back all recently purchased players and staff back to their previous clubs, for free, with a letter of apology.
