Why do we need it . I don’t want it nor do most people over 40 ! We like to sit .

Oh blimey, not this again; if you don't want to stand in the safe standing zone then you can have a seat in a seated area. If it comes at the Amex it would probably be one section of the NS.

Now it's been approved I expect it will become a requirement in a very short time - whether PB likes it or not.

Nonsense. It will never be a requirement. Back in the days when everyone pretty much had terracing Coventry was all seater and, (I think), Aberdeen up in Scotland.

Saying it's allowed merely confirms that clubs now have the choice.

I was in favour of the idea but, having experienced it twice at Spurs, I'm not sure it improves away ends at all. It might well get more singing in the North, which would be a good thing.

First time at Spuds was a 'mare, 2 deep and squished shoulders due to the c0ckwombles going wherever. Second time was fine, not sure it was any different to any other game really.

Specific standing areas are good for everyone, as you know that you won’t have someone standing in front of you if you choose a seated area.

For that reason only (choice), they must be introduced as soon as possible in AWAY sections.

I’m happy that the home sections know where standing occurs, but ultimately, these areas should be properly designed for it, too.
I can't recall the last away game I went to where the vast majority of fans weren't standing so fail to understand why you think it 'must've be introduced!

Look at the Amex. The away following in the south stand are always on their feet!

Whenever this subject comes up I get the impression that more than a few people seem to think that safe standing will be in all areas, rest assured, you’ll still be able to sit in comfortable silence in the East Upper.

That was then - it wasn't an issue then.

Now, yes. The leagues/FA/H&S can set requirements for grounds - no-one can say for certain that they won't make this a requirement in future, if only for the safety of away fans who currently stand with only a shin high barrier to trip over.

Tad condescending. Pretty certain that all those commenting are well aware that it wont be in all areas. What I and possibly many others find funny is that we already have two standing areas, the north stand and the away section. Yet some are adamant that being able to lean on a bar will enhance the atmosphere!!!

Sorry, that's nonsense regarding the North. The back few rows stand - a few more perhaps under the police box and scoreboard. Reconfiguring it so that the Western (police box) side and centre was all standing and sitting was maintained further towards the Family Stand would allow a proper singing section with the two groups coming together, while taking some of the more unsavoury behaviour away from the Family Stand and still allowing people to buy cheap, seated STs.

I think it's great news and I hope it comes in at all grounds.

Upon some reflection and having tried this in a few grounds, we are very fortunate that the arrangement to turn a blind eye to standing at the back of the North has lasted 10 years. I think I'm right in saying the majority of the stand do just that? So you could make a case to leave it how it is for now, assuming there have not been standing related injuries with people toppling over.

What I don't like though is Barbs coming out with the line that there isn't the demand for safe standing based on a crappy survey 6 years ago. Hopefully they will rethink that.

Would be good to see if they could put an area in the South Stand though. If we want to boast of a state of the art stadium we need to embrace the latest technologies.

Spurs, Chelsea, Wolves were all fantastic away ends in recent months. Good news for the Premier League.

Oh and I'd love to see how safe standing at QPR compares to White Hart Lane as I don't think i can remember a more cramped ground than that!

Safe standing in the south west corner would be brilliant

You cant have a standing section next to a seating section in the same stand as it would obscure the view of those in the seats. Any safe standing area would have to be behind the seats so it would still stretch across the back of the stand anyway.
It's truly bizarre that we have two groups in the north, many of which I assume keep bemoaning the lack of atmosphere yet are on such big ego trips they wont join in with other group!

I'd also add that there's a helluva lot more standing in the north than just the back few rows.

Well I thought that but as long as there was a small gap (which the club may very reasonably not want) I'm not sure that's true, based on Spurs, where there are home fans seated in the side stand next to the safe standing away end. I would accept that perhaps the sight lines at Tottenham Hotspur stadium could have been designed with that in mind but we're always told how good the sightlines are at The Amex.

Indeed, I was being a tad mischievous, but I honestly believe that some people are of the belief that safe standing would be in all areas of the stadium, otherwise why on Earth would anyone sat in the West Upper really care if the North Stand was converted to safe standing? It literally would have zero impact on their ‘experience’ .
Personally I’d like to see it brought in.

Safe standing would only give Barber an excuse to bung up the prices and nobody wants that, as well as causing upset and unrest amongst those STHs who would be moved to accommodate safe standing.
Why would anyone be moved if they are already the ones standing?

Do you not realise that this is because there is no choice when inconsiderate people choose to stand in front of those who want to sit?

That is PRECISELY why it is required in away ends first.

I’m not saying the entire away end. Just give us a choice. Some people are excluded from away games as they either have to be right at the front or stand and don’t wish to do either.

Not sure it would help. If you're going to an away game and want to sit you need to buy seats at the very front of allocated blocks. Even if they introduced safe seating in parts of away allocations you may still end up getting a standing space if all the seated options are sold out!

As for not wanting to stand nor be at the front, then maybe away games aren't for you. Perhaps you expect clubs to provide you with a comfortable armchair in the part of the ground that is of your choosing!!

Only one thing PB is concerned about and that is income. If safe standing produces less income it wont happen

That's pretty much what clubs used to do. I used to go to some away games with my wife and my dad and we sat in the stands where away fans were allocated. At various times, Fulham, Spurs, Luton, Oxford, Aldershot, MK Dons, Villa and a few more.

Safe standing provides the same income, clubs are not reducing ticket prices and it is the same number of seats.

Apparently it costs £50-£100 per seat to replace with rail seating. This plus the fact that some people are bound to object to their seat changing means I can't see it ever happening at The Amex.

Well said. I haven't been to an away match for years because I fall in to that category. The last was a joyless game at Southend when lairy Albion fans bullied and threatened my wife and son away from our seats and frankly made the afternoon a miserable experience. Suporting the same team made no difference. They just wanted trouble. Never again.
