Having been there since around 1955, Peter pans has now shut it's gates for the last time, and will soon be bulldozed to make way for the new swimming pool.

I have lovely memories of Pans, taking my boy there on numerous sunny days, and latterly, of meeting my found again 18 year old daughter there, and becoming the family that should always have been.

Peter Pans, we never marched for you, or sent flowers to the DPM, nor did we even play Sussex by the sea with a violin on a flint wall, but I tell you, we'll miss you.

Bye Pans.

Agreed, my boy's are only 2 and 1. I was just finding out how much joy it brings to the children of Sussex, will be sorely missed. R.I.P.

Remember being enthralled by the space invaders arcade machine cabinet they had, monsters and spaceships, what's better than that to a 4 year old! would love to get my hands on one now!

Apart from sliding down the Helter Skelter on a worn out doormat it was rubbish. We wave goodbye to you as we have waved goodbye to Kaolin and
Morphine, leaded petrol and Rickets... adios, you will not be missed

Used to LOVE going there as kids back in the 1960s. Before they built the adventure playground at Brooklands it was pretty much the only decent playground in the Lancing area, the next one was probably Buckingham Park in Shoreham.

I remember being miffed when they moved the helter-skelter to Brighton for a while so that it could be used on the set of "Oh what a lovely war!"

That's a shame, can remember going there when I was a kid when we used to visit my Grandmother in Worthing and since I've moved here was a good place to take the kids still.

Un-f***ing-believable. You never had a game with 30 kids with cutlasses defending The Castle then did you ? The Helter Skelter was temporarily dismantled and taken to Brighton pier for a film one summer - A Carry on film if memory serves me right - but luckily we got it back. It hasn`t been the same for many many years though and my kids never ated it lke we did. The parrallel slides, the helter skelter, the castle, the dolls house ? You bloody retract those comments vegster or you I`ll run you through.

(edit : just read the Bovian post... of course Oh what a lovely war)

I used to love peter pan fairground on the seafront. Used to visit all the time at the weekends with my mum when I was a nipper, The little pool next to it was really cool, this has brought so many memories flooding back. Remember going down the helter skleter over and over and didn’t want to leave.

The big game on there was trying to form traffic jams where you and a mate wedged yourself in and stopped the next 20 kids getting down. Always got the management out with threats to throw you out. I remember one kid climbing over the side and coming down the framework.

I didn’t need to do that as my younger brother was really big that’ll he’d get stuck with out trying and cause so much mayhem, he cried as they refused him on again as we’d all get stuck behind him so in the end with my mum demanding her little one on that they conceded defeat but he had to go down on his own and there was a 3 minute wait or something like that till he squeezed out the bottom.

A sad day indeed. Although i didn't live in Worthing as a kid i used to come over (from Shoreham) to go to PPs, and i have since taken my kids there,so it's served 2 generations of my family. Is the site earmarked for anything else, or could a playground be reopened there? At least we've still got Brooklands i suppose.

I have a very vague memory of going to a party there as a kid and getting given tonnes of sweets. Never took my kids there as always thought it was a bit run down.

Wasn't that called 'training' or 'forming a train'??

I am another of those that used to goto Peter Pan's Playground as a kid and whilst it has obviously had it's day it is sad to see a piece of Worthing history close down.
