Rye and other nice bits of darkest East Sussex.

As a belated and somewhat more sedate alternative to Valentines day I have opted to take my other half away the weekend after next. I tried to book the highly recommended "The George" of Rye fame, but it was full.

A cursory scout around located the similar property in Cranbrook, Kent.

Does anyone have any not to miss things to do around the area?

Accepting that we will take the ten mile or so drive down to Rye to check out the lovely town that is.

Walks, nice pubs or Restaurant recommendations would be ideal!

I have stayed in Rye several times, but close by in Peasmarsh is a place called Fleckney Ash it's really nice & offers good grub, Sauna, Pool and Gym etc. It's worth a try.

I think it's called Flackley Ash...
There's also something called Rye Lodge in the centre of the town. It claims to be quite good and must have a great view oiver the marsh. It used to be the Rye Collegiate and tried to teach me how to count in the late '50s. I guess they've changed the furniture since then...

I went to school in Rye. It's a cracking place. Go down to Camber Sands... that's where they made most of the Normandy Landing films. You can walk around the walls and the cobbled streets. I think it's the George which was famous for smugglers and has the haunted bed too.

What else. Winchelsea and Winchelsea castle is worth a look and of course Peasmarsh is the home of Mccartneys....or McCartney... you could do some quality stalking if you like. :D:D:D

I think it's the Mermaid which has the ghosts. Also famed for the high percentage of its guests calling themselves Mr & Mrs Jones...
