As Ukrainians arrive at the villages, they should interview the citizens and shop owners and ask what happened. Get lots of footage of the answers, so it's not just one person's word.

Denys' vlog showed cctv from shops of the looters and a V logoed military vehicle pulling a trailer with washing machines.
He trawls telegram accounts for his nightly updates, so I'm sure there's tons of stuff out there.

But yes, interview footage of aggrieved Kursk store owners would be nice.

(These are numbers of Russians: as far as I know, Ukraine doesn't publish figures for its own dead or injured).

Yes, I saw that reply. I think there's a good chance that China leaned on Mongolia.

Here's my interpretation. China is waiting for Russia to weaken to a point where it cannot defend itself, and then they walk in unopposed, assume control of the power vacuum and take the spoils, including the Jamal gas fields. Not to mention Lake Baikal, but that's a different story.

Interesting thoughts. I've just looked up the Jamal fields....would be quite a prize.

I'm no export on macro economics but who are Gazprom $82BN in debt to?

Whilst I can see how the Russian economy is struggling I thought their oil/gas exports had been switched from the West to India/China and a bunch of other rogue like states, albeit at lower cost. Russia itself would have had tremendous reserves before 2022 and therefore I suspect they can bail out Gazprom ad infinitum?

Hopefully my thinking is way off

Has Zelensky had an hour's sleep since Mr Genocide decided to unleash his army of deranged marauding psychopaths on a peace loving neighbouring country ? Where does he get his energy from ? How difficult it must be for them to celebrate independence day today, when untold atrocities are being carried out on their home soil, on the instructions of an unhinged genocide loving psychotic murderer.

I pray for the people pf Ukraine. Each and every one of them. May your homeland soon be free from oppression, and the enemy be held accountable for each and every one of their heinous crimes. I'm not far from tears as I write this, and I've never visited this magnificent country, or know anyone that lives there ! I just know how precious freedom is, and how no sacrifice is too great, in order to retain it. Slava Ukraini !

I am an avid reader of this thread as I am learning and understanding far more about the conflict on nsc than I am from the likes of the BBC and sky, whose coverage is sketchy to say the least.

If there were, I doubt if they could give you an accurate picture of who Gazprom are indebted to, apart from my layman's understanding that the company is owned by the Russian state, and therefore the debts are also owned by the Russian state.

What this means for the viability or otherwise of Gazprom, is unknown. Perhaps the debt can be 'written off' and hidden amongst all the other unregulated transactions that characterise Russian public life.

But I'm intrigued by your suspicion that Russia can bail out Gazprom ad infinitum. What is it actually based on?

Is there a new, alternative to the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline project that you are aware of?

Would you like to walk us through the extent of known Russian reserves, the costs of extraction, additional infrastructure/capital expenditure, and the cost of transporting them to future customers?

Not sure why sarcasm is necessary. I was simply expressing a view, not suggesting at all that I have any specific knowledge.

FWIW, I don't believe at all that Russia are going to give up this conflict for economic reasons. The article I was replying to highlighted Gazprom $80bn of debt and I am not sure why it's particularly relevant, I thought I might get an educated answer.

As for the pipeline, again I don't know but I would be surprised if it were critical to the outcome of the conflict.
