Reading these articles (confess didn't read all of it) suggests there are a number of countries & areas involved who need to do similar. Some might but others won't.

Seems they have fallen for Putin's lies hook line and sinker, especially the older generation.
Its actually hard to tell. Some will believe some or all of the lies as truth.

Others may not believe but will still say what they think they must say to not contradict any official narratives.

Everyone will know that to contradict is extreme danger.

This old woman does appear to be of the brainwashed ex USSR nirvana generation?

From the Guardian today:

"Ukrainian aerial and maritime drones struck Russian military targets on the illegally occupied Crimean peninsula on Thursday, a defence source in Kyiv said. An operation by the navy and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) damaged or disabled a command centre and an ammunition depot among other facilities at Lake Donuzlav in western Crimea, the source told Agence France-Presse. The Russian military said it brought down 33 Ukrainian aerial drones over Crimea and 10 naval drones heading for the peninsula. The figures were not independently verified and Russian officials routinely claim after attacks that most or all threats were eliminated, regardless of the outcome."

Sea drone upgrades
And they've built that 1000kg for 1000 km capability from scratch. In a war, while being invaded.

Sea drones have been a major contributor to Ukraine's war effort.

And who knows, may play a role in securing the peace.

It is a major advance... 'adversity (, necessity 🤔) being the mother of invention' etc.

What they REALLY need now is homegrown development (ok, a bit of tech knowledge transfer would be helpful) of long range missiles that can hit deep into Russia...then they won't need permission.

According to the BBC, 15 Russian and 17 Belarusian athletes are being permitted to compete at the Olympics. They will not appear on medal tables, not be permitted to display flags, or to have national anthems played.

However, no doubt sympathisers in the crowd will inevitably appear on video footage. Under the circumstances, how would you feel if you came second to one of them ? Could you shake their hand ? I don’t know if they’ll be allowed on the podium.

In my honest opinion, their presence at the games simply devalues the competition. I know absolutely nothing about tennis. My only interest is in hoping that Medvedev wins absolutely nothing.

I think I would be completely indifferent to them. I would accept that they had no connections with the Russian or Belar. army, but would
not go out of my way to be friendly either.

Not an issue for me to be honest. They are there as individuals. Let them compete as such. They are not responsible for their regimes.

However, if having been made such a magnanimous gesture, they then thumb their noses at it, by showing some sign of their national allegiance, then I would have them very publicly kicked out and barred from future competitions.

They get one chance. Take it.

I guess in national waters countries could dictate shipping/fishing routes into certain channels, to make it easier to control or identify rogues...but I imagine that would be far harder in international waters.
Could start training to cut Russian cables...if they have any 🤔
Polar Express is the big one, goes 12500km around the north and east.
Better one to cut would be Kingisepp-Kaliningrad System which links the oblast with the rest of Russia.

However I doubt that chopping either would have a significant effect compared to cutting transatlantic links.

Ukraine gives Russia forward guidance on what they should expect on a battlefield in the future:

Ukraine working on AI-enabled war drones - Sky News, 21 July 2024

Ukraine is developing AI systems to help fly a vast fleet of drones.

A number of startups in the country are working to roll out AI-enabled drones across the front line in the hope of overcoming Russia's unmanned aerial vehicle power.
Swarmer is developing software that links drones in a network, allowing decisions to be implemented instantly across the group.

"For a swarm of 10 or 20 drones or robots, it's virtually impossible for humans to manage them," Swarmer chief executive Serhiy Kupriienko told Reuters.
The company is one of more than 200 tech firms that have sprung up since the war started.

Mr Kupriienko said that while human pilots struggle to run operations involving more than five drones, AI will be able to process hundreds.
The system, called Styx, directs a web of reconnaissance and strike drones, both large and small, in the air and on the
ground.

Every drone would be able to plan its own moves and predict the behaviour of the others in the swarm, he explained.
Swarmer's technology is still under development and has only been trialled on the battlefield experimentally, he added.

I think you're right it devalues the competition. But to be honest I'm not surprised, I think the Olympics as an organisation has been a nasty corrupt organisation for a long time.
