Slight deviation, but more for @raymondo 7 @Triggaaar due to partners, but anyone else who may be interested? The biggest band in Ukraine by far and consistently voted the best band in the CIS, Okean Elzy, are playing the Brighton Centre this Saturday on 27th April.

They sing mostly in Ukrainian, though they speak fluent English and performed a track in English last night as they have an upcoming English album.

Me and the other half went in Manchester last night. I don't speak a word of Ukrainian, but absolutey loved it, the energy, musciality and Svyatoslav Vakarchuk voice and stage presence, was stunning. He's one of a few that sound exactly the same or better live as recorded. Other half was in her element!

Full of patriotic Ukrainians and a real mix of young and old demographic, and more importantly, every penny being raised on their tour is being donated to Ukraines war effort. The band are doing it for free.

If you want to support Ukraine, and fancy something different, consider the Brighton Centre on Saturday, its their last of 5 fundraising gigs in UK, a pro Ukraine fest :)

Their song "Stina" (the Wall) was the anthem for the Maidan revolution.

Just a quick note, before you get me in trouble with my Mrs: we have had a Ukrainian housemate, and I have not behaved inappropriately in any way with the beautiful Ukrainian lady. She's certainly not my partner.

Thanks for the heads-up 🤩. Weird coincidence is that they play in Bristol this evening (that's local to us) but unfortunately we're doing other stuff.
My wife knows their music very well.

Great that you enjoyed the show and that they're donating proceeds 😀.

"The Prime Minister spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this morning, to assure him of the UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s brutal and expansionist ambitions.

He confirmed that the UK would provide an additional £500 million in immediate funding to support the highest priority capabilities, including further ammunition, air defence and drones – taking our support this year to £3 billion.

The Ministry of Defence would also make our largest-ever single commitment of military equipment to help Ukraine fight back across land, sea and air – including 60 boats, more than 400 vehicles and over 1,600 missiles.

President Zelenskyy thanked the Prime Minister for the UK’s continued support, saying the new military assistance would make a material difference to ordinary Ukrainians fighting on the frontline to defend their country.

Ahead of a visit to Poland and Germany, the Prime Minister reiterated that Ukraine’s security was central to all of Europe’s security. He said the UK would continue to work to galvanise the international community to support Ukraine’s defence."

From Sky News:

NATO's Finland drills 'increase risk of military incident*', Russia says

'Russia has hit out at planned NATO exercises near its border with Finland, warning they raise the risk of "possible military incidents".
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told RIA state news agency the drills are "provocative".
Finland officially joined NATO earlier this month, almost two years after applying in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
It shares a 1,340km (832-mile) border with Russia, so its entry more than doubles the size of NATO's border with the nation.
Commenting on the planned drills on 26 April, Ms Zakharova said: "NATO military exercises near the Russian borders are provocative in nature.
"Their task is to exert military pressure on the Russian Federation through a demonstration of force."
She added: "The drills... increase the risks of possible military incidents."

*But only if we can get our trucks up to Finland. Why couldn't Nato hold the drills nearer to Ukraine, where all the Russian kit is? It's just thoughtless.

Also reports of UK lending Eurofighter Typhoons to Poland.

Have we got any to spare though?
I'm going to back pedal on this one.

The reports are two months old, but I can't find anything about it since. It did emerge about a year ago as well, in the form of 'the UK is willing to lend a Nato ally if they gift a Soviet or Russian plane like a MiG 29.' Ben Wallace was quoted at that time.

It could be true, or could be all smoke and mirrors, aimed at our Russian friends.

I do sense that things are hotting up though.

But invading Ukraine isn't provocative 🤷🏼‍♂️

I hope people realised my last line was me being facetious. I'm guessing that the Nato decision to hold drills in Finland will be partly to stretch Russia and take their focus from Ukraine for a short while.

My thoughts exactly.

The double standards, irony, lack of self awareness etc, is a recurring theme. I'm pretty sure that accusing your enemy of the very crimes you commit, is a part of the Russian military doctrine of maskirovka, designed to derail, confuse and distract the enemy.
Yes, exactly...and I did get the earlier facetious comment 😏
They want to be respected on the world stage...🤣

Finland's joining of NATO is a VERY good thing all round.
