I don't think even Putin has any plans to invade the UK anytime soon. As far as been conscipted to fight in eastern Europe against Russia, I will use the religious grounds of refusal like Muhammed Ali and the Vietnam war.

nope, one of their top military dudes recently said they don’t need to because they can turn the whole of the UK into sand within minutes.
Exactly. That's why a complete and humiliating defeat of Russia in this war is dangerous in that they have the nuclear option. Nobody seems to be talking about that unlike the start of the military operation. Not sure how it's going to end to be honest.

I disagree. Anything less than a comprehensive defeat for Putin will see him (or Putin 2.0) try again in the coming years.

Putin is relentless. He won't stop. But rather than risk Russia and his own life with the nuke option, he throws more meat in the grinder. Conscripts, convicts, Siberians, African mercenaries, you name it. And then he doesn't feed them or pay them.

He must be stopped and he must lose big, so that Russia is permanently disabled, cannot build up another war chest and finance another quest for glory. If he loses big, then perhaps the Russians will finally realise they are not entitled to invade peaceful sovereign countries and that Putin has taken away any future they thought they had.

Don't think Putin is as confident about the nuclear option as he was at the start of the war.
His hypersonic missiles were supposed to be impossible to intercept - turns out Patriot can knock them out quite easily.
His S300 and S400 air defence systems were supposed to be very effective - turns out they're sh1t.
It's mutually assured distruction and he knows it.

If we fight Russia directly, we won’t need a massive army

It’d be over in five minutes, with several very big bangs

British Army chief says people of UK are ‘prewar generation’ who must be ready to fight Russia
He is right. We must be ready to fight Russia.

Luckily the massive destruction of Putin's current army in Ukraine has bought us time - a few extra years. But unless Putin is utterly defeated in Ukraine - along with his mob in Moscow - then war is coming to us. In our lifetimes or for the future generations.

Agreed.

Russia has been at war with the west for decades. It's just that the west hasn't noticed it. It took a full scale invasion to get us to sit up and think 'this guy means business'.

Putin has just made a decree that all former parts of Russia and the USSR, and anywhere where Russian is spoken, should become part of Russia. This includes Alaska, and large parts of Europe and Asia, including all the 'stans'. We may think this is insane, but experience tells us that he - actually - means it.

I still don’t think it’s in Putin’s interest to have a land war with the west, it’d be a total mismatch. Russia survived in 1812 and 1941 primarily because it’s huge and armies ran out of steam, not an issue with modern logistics. He might talk a good game, but if it came to it and didn’t go nuclear then NATO takes Moscow in a week.

the British Army chief wants a larger budget to recruit and train a larger standing army.

he absolutly does not want an untrained, enthusiastic conscripted mob.
