Well, at least we know the context in which the US has approached the Russia-Ukraine peace process. Their first priority is US security.

OK, so Trump wants Russia to be the junior partner of the US (or the other way round?), or he wants US, Russia, China in balance...the 'Three Body Problem' which was some odd but engaging series on Netflix last year 🤔.
Meanwhile, Europe will probably get closer links with China because of Russian aggression and US tariffs. It's all becoming clear now.

Why can't we all just live our lives, enjoy our hobbies and try not to destroy the planet? UTA.

This context may not necessarily be a bad thing for Ukraine.

It might depend on what the deal with Russia looks like.

It's not over until the final whistle. UTA.

It is sometimes useful to understand changes in the narrative contained in Russian disinformation.

In this case, it is the instructions given to 'Z-bloggers'.

Will we see a similar change of message on Russian state propaganda TV?

"We are not fighting for territories, look at Siberia, we have territory. We're fighting for Russia's status in the new global order. Isn't it so?"

They make it up each time they speak. What does taking a chunk of Ukraine do for Russia's status in the global order? Before Trump, it wrecked their status, and after Trump I hope it'll be the same.

Or you could look at it another way.

You could interpret the instruction to the Z-bloggers to prepare their Russian audiences to give up the new territories.

Peskov today is quoted as saying there is absolutely no way Russia will return any of the lands stolen in East Ukraine, as they are now parts of Russia in Russian constitution, as are parts of Donestk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, that the Russians dont yet control.

I'm actually glad they say this today, as it shows they have no intent in any form of real or just peace or anything that Ukraine would settle for.

I dont want Ukraine to be forced into some form of capitulation just to massage Trumps ego. Its better that the Russians intend to fight, as it makes a just peace more likely down the tracks and puts pressure on Trump as his BS peace plans unravel.

I can definitely see how it could read that way - an easy back down for Putin were he forced into one. But there's no way that's the position Putin feels he's in right now.

Yeah, the fact they altered their constitution to include those oblasts means there’s no going back for them. I fear it even makes it difficult for any successor of Putin to undo it.

You're probably right, but we don't know what deal Russia has been / will be offered.

You know me, my glass is always half full. But that tweet about the z-bloggers is really interesting.

Ukraine should highlight that Russia are occupying their land, and any mining attempted on that land without Ukraine's permission will be bombed.
I agree, Trig...but please don't bomb our Babushka's village 😬.
I was going to post this anyway:
Granny Raymondo is about 25 miles inside occupied Zaporizhzhia. Per today's phone call with Mrs Raymondo, in the past couple of months the Russians have reopened a small scale iron ore (we think) mine just outside the village. It had been closed years ago as uneconomic. Local men and women have taken jobs there (voluntary, paid) as there's little work until the growing, harvesting restarts.
Probably the local commander wants to keep his conscripts busy.
Granny has been told the ore is taken to Russia (I thought it was already Russia 😉). I imagine this is happening on many small scales all across the occupied territories, and probably on a very large scale in Donbas.
Anyway #don'tbombgranny 👍

Not really, they can just change their constitution again.

See above.
I am making an assumption that there’s a process to go through, opposition to be countered and agreement to be won before changes are ratified.

I’m sure that doesn’t apply with Putin, but I’m not talking about Putin. Happy to stand corrected if it can be done at the drop of a hat ushanka.

US sanctions on Russia extended for one more year. (y)

Well, that's fantastic news! So hard to get my head around what's going on.
Is Trump saying to Ukraine and Europe: there you go, one more year to push them out.
Is Trump saying to Zelenskiy: these sanctions are contingent on your signing the minerals deal.
Is Trump saying to Putin: you won't give me a ceasefire so fxck you then.

I dunno, but it's good.
