Russell Martin's name has been cropping up more and more as a potential replacement for De Zerbi. Someone sent me this report in the local Southampton paper too.
Far be it for a local paper to indulge in a bit of click bait nonsense - heaven forbid - but how would you feel about this Brighton born, former youth academy player being our next manager?

(Soz if this has been much discussed in another thread - I've only been able to dip in and out recently).

Yes, I read that ‘article’. I also read the comments too. It seems that Saints fans aren’t exactly enamoured with him - fickle lot! One comment likened it to shopping in Poundland. Not for me Clive. :drink:

Whether it's true or not, it's a very obvious and lazy link we're going to see a lot of I guess due to his Brighton connections and the way his teams play.

He's done a decent-ish job there this season but with their squad, I feel they should be doing better than they are actually. From all the Saints fans I know and what I've seen of them, they play some good stuff but lack a bit of a cutting edge and don't score as many goals as they should, sound familiar?!

The Saints fans generally seem to think he's ok but nothing more than that and I know a few people who know him personally and really like him but I just find something about him quite irritating.

Yes there is an incredible amount of misplaced arrogance there.
I saw him a couple of weeks ago, actually - in Waitrose, in Chandlers Ford. He had a black roll-neck jumper on - like the Milk Tray man, and he was looking at the bunches of flowers.

Probably looking to buy a big bunch to present to HIMSELF. The smug weirdo.

Quite a funny article. Could be written by AI.

The actual author has also got another exclusive, that Man United are going to signal their first transfer window under INEOS by making the marquee signings of Ross Barkley from Luton, and Tosin Adarabioyo on a free from Fulham (though The Guardian seem to think he's off to West Ham which seems far more likely).

I'd chalk this one down as utter rubbish.

I often have a roll neck on…black, blue or a lovely white submariner one. I’ve never bought myself flowers…

Living within the Southampton hinterland I do hear a lot of negatives about him putting players in wrong positions and being very dogged in some tactics which don't work; but the significant problem I have is it's rather difficult to speak to a non-arrogant Saints supporter.
It's incredible isn't it?! Even after all these recent years of us moving in opposite directions, I still get spoken to like Brighton are no better than Crawley and they're like this bastion of football success.

It still makes me angry thinking of those 'Saints is the South' car stickers. Vile club.

Probably was. They're already using this at Reuters so only a matter of time before all news outlets are doing the same, if they aren't already.
