Has to be Harry Allt surely, bang in character! Got my History A'level though so mixed memories of him

I remember one lesson in which a lad was flicking ink with his fountain pen. Harry Allt spotted him, and in a flash of dangerously insane history teacher, had grabbed him, turned him upside down, mopped up the ink with his Cucurella locks, and stuck him head first in the bin. You don't get that sort of teaching these days.

I left Blatchington Mill in 88 but I seem to recall some trouble a few years later with Hove Park which resulted in someone house getting trashed ?? Think it made the local news on TV

Tideway always crushed Longhill. The Longhill sports minibus was met by a Agincourt of stones in 1980, ambushed on the A259 after a match at Tideway.
Tideway were like the Jocks to the Romans. You can rule the Brighton school- just build a wall at Longridge Avenue

In the late 60s Stanmer v Westlain could get a bit lively in the winter snow One year the Westlain headmaster strode into the middle of it to put a stop to it, something he regretted.

Remember his voice would go higher and higher and you'd know to keep your head down and pray. They don't make 'em like that any more and come to think of it there weren't that many even then.

Were they just snowballs?

Not kidding, at Tideway snowballs had a stone in the centre, or were rock-hard lumps of ice later in the cold spells. Saw a few windows smashed. Plus teachers cars battered on the final mini upslope road entrance to the gates.

There were stories about a nun getting a brick to the head, but nothing ever proved.

I remember Mac coming into the classroom and rounding up some of our 'top boys' but the rest of us spent the time doing latin pluperfect verbs.

I didn't go to school round here but have a fond memory of a psycho headteacher at my school pulling off his belt to whip and violently assault some boys, looping it, raising it over his head...and catching and ripping down the light fitting. When of course he then took out his increased rage on the pupils.

Teachers used to get away with being absolute nutters.

We ambushed some public school lads once when they were skipping through the woods with satchels flying, it got messy, graph paper was spread over that woodland for months. We pulled out their leather satchel straps and bound them to trees. I miss the good old days.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Despite there only being a chain wire fence between them, the 70's 'rumbles' between HGSB and the Neville consisted of a fair bit of traditional two step forward, two step back, 'you want some ?' dancing, together with VERY occasional flurries of a couple of punches being thrown, followed by hasty retreats.

Very much like the Goldstone just down the road at the same time (but don't tell, there's a few reputations need defending)
A couple of snowball fights but nothing serious.

It was all "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough", but nobody was.

Very much.....

The next rugby match was played under a veil of secrecy. The home team was locked in the changing room from 2:15 until Longhill arrived and when they did, they came over the cross country course with a police escort.

Small town England.

There was a major incident in about 1976 between BHASVIC (when it was still partly a grammar school) and Cardinal Newman.
Bricks going over the wall between the 2 schools at the far end of the playing field. I think there was a meet up outside where one Newman lad was waving a bike chain around. I'm not sure there was any direct physical contact though.

No nuns were hurt during the conflict.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I recall in around 89 an unnatural nimbleness of this here Meade dodging an array of eggs after school, around Fiveways. I'd left Stringer on that last day of term and got the sense that some 'deanians had set up a sloppy, beshelled artillery for any Stringerer travelling home the route of a 26. It felt a slow motion, Matrixy assault as I ducked and dive and froze to avoid the bombovament.

The same teacher was rumoured (before I joined Varndean) to have dangled a boy over the quad by his ankles, from the upper floor. He put the boy's life in danger.

There are more episodes that I did witness.

At Stringer in the mid 90’s there was a big one. The Varndean lot all marched down and our man stood up to his rival. He swung a right and the lad literally caught his fist in his hand. Our lad swung a left and the same thing happened. All that was left was for our lad to nut his rival sweet and it was MAGNIFICENT!

I will never forget it :)

There was occasionally something going off between the Knoll, Nevill and HGS back in the day. All nice and friendly with no knives - just a bit of a dust up here and there. I imagine they go round tooled up with machetes, knives and sub machine guns these days.
Back in my day (HGSB) it was always going off between the Nevill and, er, themselves. Chairs through prefab windows, etc.

Every time I hear this story a bit has been added. The manoeuvre you describe is almost impossible without super strength or an extremely lightweight pupil 🤔🤔
