5 years of killing thousand upon thousand of innocent people and have we found any WMD`s ?
We don`t need an enquiry do we ?

How long ago was it we invaded Afganistaan ?
Any sign of that Bin Laden chap ?

....................................................... The following story is cute as well

Ama Sumani is slowing down. She is only 39 but moves like an elderly grandmother.

Ama came to the UK five years ago as a student
Her feet, legs and face are swollen.

A week ago Ama was lying in a hospital bed in Cardiff. Her kidneys damaged by cancer, she had just had a session of the dialysis treatment she needs three times a week to stay alive.

Then early in the morning, in walked three immigration officers.

They removed her from the hospital in a wheelchair, drove her to Gatwick airport and the very same afternoon put her on a plane to Ghana.

Ama's visa was out of date and so she had been in the UK illegally.

P.S. She died this week.

Great Britain ?

Yes, let's pick one sob story to justify illegal immigration shall we?

I am sure there are lots of them, but what about the other side of the coin - the problems caused by lax enforcement of the rules and a far-too-liberal and human-rights minded view of the issue?

Ok I know I'm a fish who just chomped at the lovely bit of a meat hanging down provocatively in front of me, but .... oh well :)

If she was illegally in the UK she wasn't entitled to NHS care, there are thousands of people illegally in the UK who are here to get access to our health care. Thats why the NHS is in the state it is...

Taking up a hospital bed that could have been used by someone who had actually paid into the NHS
I am tired of people coming to this country and sponging off us.
I am also tired of people who have never done a days work in their lives and whose standard of living is better than those of us who actually go out to work
It is time for a sea change in our attitudes
Simply it is time for a change

She should've got healthcare where she was actually entitled to it.

Also, upon finding the article on BBC News, some more info:

A spokesman for Ghana's high commission in London said the country had two fully-equipped hospitals in Accra and further north in Kumasi.

He did concede that access to treatment was costly but said that if Ms Sumani was a member of the Ghana national health insurance scheme she would still receive treatment.

Ms Sumani's lack of English prevented her from pursuing the course and she went to find work which contravened her student visa.

But when she came back to the UK her student visa was revoked and she was only given temporary admission which effectively meant she was given notice she would be removed, her solicitor said.

She did not keep in touch with immigration officials and was first taken ill in January 2006.

No sympathy here I'm afraid.

Sorry but tuff, our Nhs and Welfare state are over burdened with our own scroungers without feeling sympathy for someone who shouldnt of been here.
All I'll say is watch someone who has worked and paid tax all their life wither because the drugs that may help(or not) are too expensive for the NHS trust to afford. Then re-visit these media headlines.

Nice to see that there are plenty of heartless bastards on NSC. Ama Sumani was a person in need of help, she is now DEAD and all she gets is slagged of for sponging, happy good friday everyone.

Just realists, you can't save everybody. She wouldn't have lasted long anyway.

No you can't save everybody, and we've all got to go sometime, but there is a real lack of humanity in deporting a vulnerable person on their sick/death bed. And some of the off hand response to her situation really saddens me.

When our government is prepared to spend billions displacing millions of people from their homes and unleashing a series events that inevitably results in the violent deaths of thousands of people in Iraq, the pursuit of seriously ill "illiegal immigrants" seems pretty hollow to me. maybe if we stopped wasting money killing people abroad we might be able to stop prevent more deaths at home.

Sorry to be a bit grim on the first day of holiday, but I really found this thread pretty depressing.

Thing is, she came to the uk for one reason, to get free medical care. She obtained NHS care illegally. If we allowed her to stay to continue this treatment we would continue to be seen as a soft touch. People are saying we need to toughen up however when we do we "have a lack of humanity".

When you are trying to save your life you'll do pretty desperate things to do it. I'm not going to condemn anyone for trying to do that. I find this whole notion of some people being "illegal" and others not pretty distasteful, but then I guess that is another debate altogether. I think it's pretty poor that seeking healthcare or trying to make a better life for yourself should be considered a crime simply because of where you were born.

All this talk of lack of resources seems pretty sick when we are are prepared to spend up to £20billion on renewing Trident a totally pointless weapon that we are never going to fire at anyone at all.

So, since you DO feel SO strongly about this - what are you going to DO about it beyond complaining to an internet football-based forum from your keyboard?

People are dying all over this World, country and status means nothing when talking about lives...... so really, you bang on as though you are extremely perturbed - what are you doing about it sitting in this country typing your concerns and disgusts to us??

All this stuff now seems tantamount to ranting about stuff to a neighbour over the garden fence and just saying "ooh I know, how awful for them, yes they should do something, it's so heartless etc". In other words - nothing.
If it's a cause you feel so intense about - go do something about it, lobby your MP or make a move for an international group that administer care internationally

'Afraid that particular beef has been in place ever since man took up weapons against other mankind. You are correct to say that money spent on damaging people ought to be spent on healing.
It's intrinsic to man though, to always threaten, to hoard wealth, and to think nationally.
