Is anyone else really looking forward to this?

Starts soon and it looks to be quite open with 3 or 4 times able to win it this time round.
Should be interesting.

I really do fancy the France to win this given footie World Cup in '98 when they won with home advantage plus their forwards look very strong.

However never rule out New Zealand or the Aussies

I actually fancy the Saffies

watching most of teh Tri nations, they were the only side to really have challenged the AB's at their own game, even though they eventually ran out losers both games ( very close in the first one).

I recon the final will be

S Africa vs France

I think with a little luck the Irish could win it.

Aussie Ireland final if possible would be good.

New Zealand will choke as normal.

Yes really looking forward to it but fully expecting us to not even qualify from our group. S. Africa will muller us (impressive rugby term there :lolol:) and Samoa may well steamroller us. Anything can happen of course. I fully expect NZ to win but they have a habit of choking in recent World Cups. Don't think the French are quite good enough but will go close and a lot further than us

Not a chance imo, O'Driscoll, will be targeted and without him they are not good enough. Isn't O'Driscoll still injured with a broken cheak bone anyway?

Either SA or NZ will win

I hope that they have a neutral referee for the Australia Ireland game. Paddy O'Brien last time!

If we finish as a runner-up to South Africa, then we are likely to play Australia in the quarters. Thankfully, they have not been on the best of form. We will perform better as the underdogs and it will be a case of keeping the key men fit. I wouldn't rule us out of a semi-final appearance.

Just what have we done since the last World Cup to give you such unbridled optimism??? 4 years of being rubbish against pretty well everyone. A win against France in the last 6 nations (followed by two comprehensive defeats against them recently) and a thrashing of an under strength Wales are the only games I can think of in the last 4 years.

I read the other day somewhere that New Zealand were odds on to win it!

Could be a very one sided tournament.

If thats the case it maybe better to finish second in the pool

Since Ashton has taken over, we have shown spells of decent rugby. I just have a feeling that if we keep our key men fit, then we can pull up some trees. We have learned alot from the two defeats to France. We do have the talent to pass the group stages and beyond, it is just the case of application. The key is going to be our pack, as ever!

Does anyone know why Wales and Scotland got to host home games in own grounds?

I assume its pay back for letting the French have some of the World cup in 99?

I think it was not possible to schedule all the games with the French football season underway.

The French used it as a sweetner to get votes be allowed to host the tourny ahead of the England bid.
