This idea that rugby is a public schoolboy game is rather outdated. It's only had that reputation in England (and to a certain extent, Ireland and Scotland) but even that wasn't really based on reality.

In certain parts of England, rugby is the dominant sport, the working class sport if you like. I don't know the educational backgrounds of the England rugby team (but then I don't know what schools the English football team went to either) but I'd be surprised if more than a few are public schoolboys. In places like Gloucestershire, Somerset and Cornwall, rugby is the main game, of those I do know, lots of this team were farmers originally, Johnston was a copper and Leonard (I believe) humped furniture around. The problem with rugby is that administration is dominated by upper class wankers and that tends to skew the image of the sport.

I'm not going to stick up for England as I don't support them and I'd be happy to see them lose, but all this stuff about rugby being a public school game and football being the working class one is getting on my tits. I enjoy both sports and am looking forward to getting up early in the morning for a feast of rugby.

Oh, Brighton beating Grimsby, England beating Turkey and Georgia beating in England in the sporting shock of the decade would suit me fine :)

That would be a bigger upset than England losing to the USA in the 50's (?)

However much you welsh would like it it ain't gonna happen.

What happened to innocence until proven guilty? How the FA can live with themselves after all this shit I dont know, and I wouldnt be surprised if we got beaten in Istanbul. Absolutely ridicuous preparation, to announce about Rio at the start of the week? schedule Sol Campbells disciplinary on the Wednesday? RUBBISH.

The rules state that he is guilty - you don't take the test - you are guilty. Simple as. And "standing up for a mate" at the risk of not making Euro 2004 when the rules state that "the mate" is guilty sounds like the behaviour of prima donnas to me. "We don't care about the rules" is the overwhelming message I got from the players. What if Rio had been caught taking drugs? If his sample had been positive? His hearing still wouldn't have been until after the Turkey game. Would your "Innocent until proven guilty" argument stand up then?

Anyone who doesn't agree with these new doping regulations has lost the plot IMHO. I've heard from several people over the past week who said that a masking agent coud hide any drugs in the system before 36 hours. I agree that it is highly unlikley that Ferdinand took drugs but if you or I was told we had a drug test in a few minutes, we would never "forget" about it knowing that doing so could mean a 2 year ban. Maybe the only thing that Rio is guilty of is contempt for the authorities/rules but does that make it right. He's paid 50-100k a week to play by the rules.

Both.

9 more tickets for the Euros now in the bag. Large Albion Flag will now be at 10 Euro matches in Portugal next year (inc 2 QFs).:smokin:

Gwylan makes a good point. Sorry all you parochial types who've never been out of Sussex but there are parts of England where it is the main sport. Also nowadays rugby is at least as working class as football - possibly more so given the relative cost of admission to both sports. And we're GOOD! Maybe not good enough to win the World Cup but better than we've ever been.

I don't understand the anitpathy towards England. I want us to win at everything; football, rugby, cricket, athletics, dwarf-tossing, I don't care. And any sport where we are at the level where we can consistently shut the Aussies up is a good sport in my book.
