WORLD EXCLUSIVE: ROO: I'LL STRIKE
Wayne's threat to bungling FA
By Simon Mullock
WAYNE Rooney has warned the Football Association he is ready to go on strike and refuse to support England's commercial sponsors.

In a bombshell letter that dropped on chief executive Brian Barwick's desk last week, the Manchester United and England striker explained why he is considering "withdrawing all support for the FA's commercial programme".

Rooney is outraged by the way an FA disciplinary tribunal imposed a three-match ban on him for the red card he received in the pre-season Amsterdam tournament. The letter was sent on Rooney's behalf by his agent Paul Stretford. Sunday Mirror Sport understands the 20-year-old star has the full backing of his Old Trafford employers in his attack on the FA.

Stretford made clear he was reflecting Rooney's "utter dismay at the decision by the FA not to overturn the red card" and that the star feels let down.

The United striker and his advisers are taking legal advice.

In the wake of David Beckham's axing, Rooney is the most lucrative marketing tool in the FA's cupboard.

Fair play to him. The FA have completely f***ed him over with this red card business. Once again they have proved themselves to be a spineless waste of space, if they're not prepared to stick up for their players then why should they get to make money out of them?

Does not compare to Best/Gazza at all. They ruined their footballing careers through abusing their bodies.

Rooney feels as though the FA have shafted him. He's not obliged as a Man Utd player to support the FA's sponsorship deals I don't believe.

I don't have an issue with what he's doing. Perhaps the people that run the game should run it for the good of the game, rather than their own benefit.

You sir are spot on

Totally agree with Rooney, From the television replays the offence was not a straight red card, it was a yellow card at worst.
Rooney's elbow came down on the other players head as he was coming down from the jump he made. He didn't swing his arm it was just gravity coming in to play, IMHO.

Have to agree with Rooney here, good on him for standing up to the FA muppets. They profit from his playing and status and then treat him like crap.

A Liverpool player was sent off in last years Amsterdam tournament & the FA decided that no further action was needed. Ive always thought that the authorities favoured man u & their players whenever there was any ill discepline now it seems that theyv'e gone the other way.
must admit I'm not that dissapointed..... or should I say about bloody time!

brighton, actually
this may backfire on Rooney- if England can 'do' without Becks, than maybe Rooney too..?

does he also forfeit any income from these sponsorship deals?

should be appealing on grounds of unfair red card only, not trying to bend someones arm..

cant people just accept their punishment? its not like its his first offence..

This could set a dangerous precident though, if The FA suddenly can't suspend players who represent the country.

Regardless of whether or not the FA were right in this instance, anyone could catch on if the FA back-down or anything stupid like that.

The decision has been made Rooney, shut the f*** up and get on with it.

What!? England cannot do without Becks. They'll have to but it'll cost them big in terms of sponsership. So there is no way they can do without Rooney too.

Good on him. I only hope he carry's it through. Those in-breds that run the FA need someone to stand up to them.

I think it was a straight red, You cant jump for a ball that far away and lead with an elbow. Maybe it wasn't intentional but it was reckless so therefore its a red card IMO.

But in the previous tournament the clubs all signed an agreement saying disciplinary offences wouldn't be reported and carried over

Rooney is a muppet who is being badly advised.

It's not like he's never been in trouble before and this is a one off. the man should take his punishment and shut up.
