My biggest hate of Albion fans on here is their negative views on England. The tournament hasn't started yet and some of you are writing us off - even tho (granted in this country) we're SECOND favourites to win it! Of course we can win - if we play like we did in qualifying against Croatia BOTH times in every game we'll win it. It all depends on those few games - we have as much chance of winning it as we do going out first round - we need to believe. Some of you sound like spoilt Man U fans -IDIOTS in other words...

Supporting BHA and supporting England aren't mutually exclusive. Barring the semi-finals of Italia90, the England national football team has never overly bothered me.

Rooney limping off single-handedly ruined my night. I support United in Europe but the result paled into insignificance compared to Rooney's injury.

If he isn't fit for the World Cup I see no way of us winning it. If he is I think we have every chance.

The fact we're second-favourites with the bookies says more about the MUGS who bet (and lose) on football than it does about England's realistic position. But you're right, we have got a puncher's chance of 'doing a Greece' and winning it. We'll need a bit of luck, we'll need all our players to be fully fit and on top form and we'll need some of the real favourites to choke - but I'm certainly not writing us off.

But with reference to your first post: pride, passion and belief, whilst admirable qualities, are secondary to talent, skill and ability.

Brov - i was quoting the FAs England slogan at the guy who said England have no quality. It's justy a personal gripe of mine - cannott see how any real football fan doesn't support England as much as their club - it's a typical spoilt fans type of view - eg Man U - but everyone's allowed their opinion. England is the pinnacle of football for me (and no i'll never compare it top the Albion - it's in-comparable) - i've always been very patriotic and love England. One thing i will say Brov is that it would be nothing like 'doing a Greece' - we've got a lot more chance than people were giving them before the Euros - People have short memorys - our qualifying campaign was ni on faultless...

It's your decision mate but i just cannot see how you can't - being a real football fan ie supporting the albion i just can't see how everyone who supposrts the albion and is English can't support England as much - it's prob just always been natural for me - i honestly cannot imagine ever not getting that feeling when England play in a major comp...

Same here. In fact it's always my counter-argument to plastic Manc and Chelski fans who just don't understand why I support Albion, and support them properly, not even have a Premiership team to support, as some sort of alternative to join in the real football as they see it.

What I can never comprehend is the response "I don't really have any interest in England." You do get that from Premiership fans, but I put that down to them being so far up their own backside that they can't see past their own chase for a Premiership title and see these pesky International fixtures as just a chance for their latest precious multi-squillionaire to get injury. However, I just kind of assumed that us lower league fans followed England without exception.

I'm not surprised but often disappointed by the attitude of 'we won't win it so I'm not bothered'. Surely it's the taking part that counts, or am I just a hopeless romantic?

Does this also go some way to explaining why the majority of the travelling support for England games comes from supporters of non Premership clubs?

I'm starting to worry about this now -not having a reassurance that it is only a minor injury rather than more serious ligament damage.

I don't give England a big chance in the World Cup but without Rooney I'd consider we have no chance.

Really, I'd say the opposite holds true as well. The England team is composed of Premiership players after all and it gives the average Premiership fan even more reason to believe that only their league has any importance whatsoever. I hate don't support the English team as much as (I assume) you do for the very reasons that I really don't like the Premiership.

I'll watch the England games and I will support them, but when they limp out at the quarter finals, beaten by someone with more quality and less arrogance, I don't think I'll give it a second thought.

I would happily take promotion for the Albion over any kind of success for England any day.

Why? I think we'd be in the top 10, but not the top 3. Our record in major tournaments against quality opposition (when it matters) speaks for itself.

England winning the World Cup is likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, whereas the Albion winning promotion, without wishing to sound bláse, is something thats likely to happen on a number of occasions.

In my Albion-supporting lifetime (and I started watching regularly in 1987) I've witnessed promotion 4 times. It must have happened at least half a dozen times in my lifetime already, and I'm not even 40 yet.

England as World Champions though - that would be IMMENSE, and would probably only happen once while I'm on this mortal coil, if I'm VERY lucky.

A month I hope and long enough to lose Utd the league. England are not going to win the World Cup anyway so I dont know why anyone is that bothered about the implications on that tournament.

Posts like that miss the whole point of watching football for me. Why did we all trapse up to villa this year? We were never going to win and even if we did we were never going to win the FA cup? In fact, why bother with watching the Albion at all given we are unlikely to ever win a major trophy. It's the hope that the best bit of a world cup, the rest of it is generally a dissapointment.

On another note, That year the Greece won the Euro's could have easily been us. Rooney limps off injured and Darius Vassell comes on. If only Alan Shearer was sat on the bench instead of the beach history may of been different. Beating Portugal, Holland and Greece was well within our capabilities. With a bit of luck which we didn't have, who knows?

If football really was that predictable - why would we bother? England 4-1 Holland, Germany 1-5 England, England 1-0 Argentina. Platt's overhead kick against belgium, Linekars 2nd penalty against Cameroon. Great sporting memories for me and all the better because I could share them with everyone that supports England rather than just the few of my close friends who follow the Albion.

Can't wait till the summer. It's you miserable bastards who are missing out. Knit one, pearl one, drop one, curl one.
