I am probably inviting a lot of criticism by saying this but I think he has done alright. If you take into account that he is still learning at 19 and with all the pressure of the media he has on him he is coping okay.

He looked alert at the start of the season and even if his form has taken a recent drop, I personally am sure he'll return to his former-self soon.

I concede that he should have stayed at Everton to progress, but however much you hate him, Alex Ferguson has a good history of nurturing players, I think slating Rooney at this stage of his career is a bit harsh and if he manages to continue to grow and mature as a player and a person he will be a vital part of England's promising future.

Now I'm ready to take a battering! So bring it on!!!

Big deal, hes played 3 half decent games against shit sides and people want him recalled

Open your eyes, the man is clearly and never will be an international footballer.

Rooney on the other hand has produced more in half a dozen games for England than Heskey did in 30 !

He is an excellent player on his day, and useful to have in the squad. Without him you have Rooney who can't keep his head and is hit and miss at the moment, and Defoe who is very similar to Owen except worse. Heskey at least gives a different option.

He was given a break as he hardly had one in the summer, what with playing in Euro 2004 and the Olympics ???

Man U do not blow their entire transfer budget on an over-rated player. The boy's a freak of nature, a mutant monster shat out of the gene pool. Like Gazza before him, the dumass big-faced bastard is an idiot-savant who would be utterly incapable of holding down the simplest McJob in any other sphere of life. No doubt he'll self-destruct at an early age thanks to his scrapping family, hangers-on, future ex-wife and his own retard tendencies. But his instinctive footballing abilities are beyond question. If he hadn't bust his foot during Euro 2004, he would have pissed all over the Player Of The Tournament award - and England would have probably gone on to win the thing. It was certainly there for the taking.

Plus we got Rooney to thank that Everton have £750,000 to squander on Dan Harding

At £25,000,000 compared to the complete Albion squad at £121,000 can anyone believe he is worth 206.61 Brighton and Hove Albions

Much as I dislike Everton, I'm really pleased to see them above Manure and Rooney. Once a blue always a blue, unless someone offers more dosh. Fat wanker.

I wonder if Everton would have had such a good season if Rooney had stayed?

Sorry to buck the trend, but I think Rooney, on his day, is excellent. I saw his CL debut for Man U when he got a hat-trick and he was astonishing, a class above. OK, he has off-days, but form is temporary, class is permanent etc etc etc. He's still worth 25mil on potential. Remember Man U paid more than that for Veron!

Once again Man U have ruined a potentially great player

You what?? Surely the most ridiculous comment this year. United haven't ruined any players! They've created a few great players, including a lot of English players, but they've ruined none. Rooney couldn't be in better hands. Or maybe he should have gone to Newcastle with Bellamy, Bling Bling Dyer et al. Get a grip.

And Rooney is Englands best player (with Gerrard). Okay, he's not playing too well at the moment but no one can play at the top all the time. Come the England games, he'll be back to his best.

Why is NSC so quick to write young players off after a bad patch. It just makes you look dim

Robert Earnshaw has scored more Premiership goals this season than Wayne Rooney. Who would've thought that back in August?

And Earnie is in my fantasy team as well (actually he is my reserve striker, so it's about time that Bryan 'mine's a double' Robson played him more often)
