Taking Mrs H away to the City of 7 hills next week, staying opposite the Coliseum, have booked that tour and the Vatican.

Any other suggestions, where else to go, where to eat etc?

Not sure if still there but a restaurant to the left of the Spanish Steps was superb, cash only then but a while back.

Just got back from Rome and Florence last week. Recommend the tours.

Trevi Fountain (go at night)
Pantheon
Forum / Palatine Hill

All walkable from where you are based.

Took the Mrs June this year for her 50th. Would definitly add the Il Vittoriano to the llist, there is a lift ot the top, costs a few euros to go up there but the views are stunning, can see the whole city. Well worth it.

Then at night PIazza Navona is a nice place for an evening meal.

Then Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps and per other suggestions.

To late now but when I went, about 7 years ago, a guide for the Colleseum told us to go to Palatine Hill, pay 7€ and get the Colleseum free, as long as you show photo ID. Worked for me
Loved Rome, have a good time. Worth checking out for anyone else going there.

Do NOT buy ice creams anywhere between the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. You will end up paying about 20 Euros for an ice cream.

Make sure you go to the Forum. It is ASTOUNDING. I enjoyed it more than the Colosseum.

Nice bar in view of Colosseum with an outside area under trees that was remarkably fair priced for Rome.

Bring plenty of Euros. Rome is not cheap.

Went there last year. Loved it.

Buying a day pass on one of the tourist buses is a good start.

I loved Rome, went years ago but I can't imagine its changed much! I would advise heading to The Pantheon early in your trip, as its the most complete Roman building you will see and it will help you imagine what a lot of the ruins were once like. My favourite sites were The Pantheon, The Forum and a tour of Palatine Hill. I'm not sure if the situation has improved but there was dogs crap EVERYWHERE when I visited, so watch your step.
