Its a decent entertaining franchise is it not. There's some fun to be had in all the films, yes even the much maligned part 5.

I must say that I think Part 6 - Rocky Balboa is in fact the finest of the 6 films. Rocky 1 gained a best film and best actor nod for Stallone in the Oscars but for me part 6 is better. Parts 2-4 are just popcorn romps , part 5 was a money making exercise and maybe part 6 inititally was although Stallone said he wanted to end on a high and admitted 5 was poor.

Well he did that in fine style. It is a fantastic achivement to make the 6th film the best, time was spent on the story and screenplay before the fight which was excellent. It was uplifiting without being corny or saccarine coated. It also had 2 superlative speeches with excellent street dialogue which were quite moving.

The guy was also in fine shape at age 60 and the direction was very good with some excellent arty shots in the fights.

Well done Sly a fine way to end.

Rocky 6 - 8.1

Whats your favourite ???

I quite liked 6 too. The one with the Russian was also very good.

My immediate reaction was that they are all as predictable as each other which is why they are so watchable, but that's not true. I really enjoyed 1 2 and 3 but -like a Dan Browne novel - once you've got the plot mechanism sorted out you can call the next line before they speak it and I'm afraid they got a bit dull for me after that.

So for originality (or not) I'll vote for the very first even if I seem to remember that I enjoyed 2 more

I can't be sure which part of your film-tastes make me angriest Uncle Spielgerm. I compare it, i suppose, to my own uncle, whose favourite films are empty, anaemic, untesting parables of fallic saleable suggestion. Nothing acidically portrayed or proposed, nothing the opposite of him or his time shown or fed on. Just him and a meaningless mirror projected in his unimagined band of sight for company. I see him and he recommends things like Seabiscuit to me. That i would be very moved by such a tale that reminds him of the prohibition era he wasn't quite born in.

It's so rare our opinions seem similar on cinematics that we are pure opposites US. But shouldn't make me angry. Yet it does.

I click on threads or polls about your favourite George Michael hits. Am i simply falling into your trap?

I will watch any film ever, so as soon as i see it to be on one evening or a free weekend i have, i'll most certainly view. Might watch it in a doublebill with MVP2 or Soccerdog or Digby.

Saw Zodiac yesterday. Found it reasonable at best. I don't know if you agree with me, but all of Fincher's films are unable to grasp character, and this was no different. The best i could say is it was 'well-made', but that in itself is no vast compliment or flowery review. Just means that he can manicure pictorially, but not delve into the human psyche, surely a key element to thrillers and serial killer films.

I am split between the 1st and Rocky Balboa, agreed the middle ones are there to make money but they aren't that bad.

BTW for anyone wanting the 6th (Rocky Balboa) its on at Asda for £9 (WH Smiths, HMV etc have it at £17.99)

Fincher is a great director, Se7en and Fight club are up amoungst the best films of the last 15 years thats why Zodiac was dissapointing against that weight of expectation, it was also at least 40 minutes too long

Maybe it's that this one was based on actual events, i find that all 'True' stories tend to fall flat as they are somewhat tied to fact.

Rocky 4 has got it for me. The soundtrack was brilliant and could be easily replicated on a casio keyboard

you can play no easy way out?

that is an incredible measure of a man.

the soundtrack is very funny i agree. it's quite impressive just how cheesy one soundtrack could be.
