Overall, I was probably more gutted when Potter left. It was all coming together at that point. De Zerbi's attitude for months has prepped the ground for this... though must admit in the last fortnight, felt more confident he'd be here another year.

I'm sure Thomas Tuchel's revelation yesterday that he's not going to solve Bayern's difficulty in attracting a new boss is in no way related to this development.

I’m not. DeZ wasn’t responsible for transfers (apart from seemingly a couple of crap ones), and we’ll probably have a new manager in before the window opens anyway

I meant from an ambition point of view but accept I could be being negative.

If we want to compete for Europe again, we need at least 3 players ready to walk into our first XI, as well as a couple more to bolster the squad. I’m guessing this is what RDZ has asked for but TB can’t guarantee this.

We’ll soon find out, either way.

In RDZs head he has been gone for months ever since the January window. My worry now is that we don't see an exodus of players. Seems a little dubious with Lallanas announcement last week. Maybe the players have known for a while

That argument about the players doesn't really stack up though when you consider Welbeck and Milner have just signed extensions. Anyone seeing Lallana play this season could see he's no longer up to playing in the PL and added to his reasons of wanting to be with his young family are not dubious at all. I agree that RDZs been gone for months though, I think he hoped to force a move but found his tactics useless against Bloom.

All very well but he has already said we will start next season without 3 big players and can understand if he was insisting on getting some established players in to go with our youngsters.. Surely people dont think we have a hope of top ten with this squad.

None of us (not even Tony) knows our team sheet for our first match of next season, we’ll have targets, and hopefully we’ll attract some of them.

It’s clear that RDZ wanted and expected to be backed, possibly by players that don’t fit our model and wouldn’t be on our radar. This is a marathon, not a sprint. If RDZ wanted to take a shortcut that accelerated our here and now progress, but potentially put the club’s stability at risk, I’m Team Tony every time.

Let’s wait and see who’s in the dugout and what our squad looks like next season, before we start preparing for an imminent return to the Championship shall we?

Shocked and gutted he's going. Had hoped for at least one more season with him in charge and to finally win a major trophy (to go with our 1910 charity shield win).

Shame we were so injury hit this season (especially the 2nd half of it) and haven't been able to finish as highly as I suspect we might have if they hadn't happened.

Leaving us with some great memories and achieved some feats at the clubs than many would have though impossible just a few short years ago (top 6 finish & playing in, and winning the group in a European cup competition)

This is not how the end of contracts work

This is the way I see it.

I don't remember another example, where a club agrees a parting with manager A, recruits manager B, but continues to employ and pay manager A in the hope of negotiating compensation with manager A's future employer.

In addition to never hearing of it happening, I still don't think it makes sense from our point of view. We're then effectively paying for 2 sets of managers and coaching staff at the same time. In addition, our negotiating position is fatally weakened. The other club know we're not keeping him.

I've still no idea why we have agreed to this.

De Zerbi and Bielsa. Both innovative managers who have made great tactical improvements to the game. Like football clubs, they have their ceilings.

Leeds kept Bielsa for one season too long and got relegated. TB and PB are not making the same mistake. Just reflect on our results so far in 2024.

Well - I am gutted… We had a great manager and there is nothing wrong with the team that a couple of decent signings and players back to fitness would not solve…
what is this “ mutual agreement “ all about? I would have been begging him to stay. I admit that those on here who realised that his love of the club had waned , were right. Perhaps there were behind the scenes arguments with the volatile Italian ?
Well, onwards we go to the future… but I would not expect much next season now.

Well I for one am gutted!

in the 50 years I have supported us, this last two seasons have been the best for excitement and adventure and to think this little old seaside team with no history or cups could compete under RDZ with the likes of Ajax, Marseilles and AEK and at home beat the Europa league semi finalists and of course finishing 6th in the premier league.

thanks for the memories Roberto and I wish you well in your next adventure.
