Brazilian World Cup winner Rivaldo has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is set to replace Henrik Larsson as the King of Celtic Football Club.

The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer and looked to be on his way to Bolton Wanderers following a series of discussions with the club from the Reebok Stadium.

However, he has yet to give his answer to Trotters boss Sam Allardyce who is growing increasingly frustrated, and it now appears that Rivaldo has been stalling in a bid to set up a move to Glasgow.

Scottish champions Celtic have indeed registered their interest in the former Barcelona and AC Milan forward, and it would appear to be strong favourites to win the chase for his signature.

"Scotland is a paradise for forwards and to play for Celtic would be sensational for a Brazilian," Rivaldo told Sky Sports. "Glasgow is a temple of football. It would be very nice to play there.

"The Scottish supporters are magnificent. For them a player is sacred and they defend him to the maximum. They are an example for other countries.”

Rivaldo also went on to stress the importance of Champions League football which Celtic can offer, and has hinted that the proposed deal to Bolton is all but dead.

"To play in the Champions League is very important to me and that will be a favourable point,” added Rivaldo. "Playing in England has always been attractive for me, but not whatever the cost.

“No, I am not auctioning myself to the highest bidder. At my age, although I am in good physical condition, I cannot make another error like I did in Italy – I want to enjoy football.

"Sincerely, I would choose a great Scottish club before a smaller English club because I aspire to win trophies and not only spend the time to gain a little more money.”

If you have no ambition or sense of self worth then go join Scotland you will be part of the most boring predictable league in the World. I'm sure your fellow professional footballers will give you massive respect for piting your wits against some of the best defences in the world!

Have you ever read such horseshit? Who writes his material? Apparently Rivaldo thought Glasgow was one of Rio's famous slum districts until someone correctly told him that it was one of Scotland's

Thank you so much, momentarily removed my nerves about tomorrow and had me falling off my chair with laughter. This is properly funny! I shall be laughing for the rest of the day

So this is the same Rivaldo who 2 weeks ago said:

"If I am to play for either Celtic or Bolton, it depends what they want to do next. If either of them increase their offer, things may happen quicker"

I wonder what other little pearlers Rivaldo will pull out of his overrated arse before he signs, sorry DOESN'T sign for the highest bidder. Glasgow is all well and good, but its when he starts trotting out at Motherwell and Kilmarnock in January that he might just start wondering "what the f*** am I doing here ?".

Yet another past-his-best, over-the-hill mercenary looking to live off his name for a while longer. He's done bugger all for 2 years, and anyone who thinks they'll be getting the Rivaldo of a few years ago for their money is a mug.

How very "Old Firm". Of course the 60,000 hooped numpties (where have those extra 46,000 come from since the days of 4th place finishes?) won't give a toss as long as he helps deliver a 40th "glorious" pub league title, when they pip The Pig & Whistle 16-2 on the final day to overtake Rangers by 1 goal (who will only muster a 13-0 win at The Fox & Hounds). How exciting.

Frighteningly accurate though...I dunno how their fans put up with it. The feeling of success their fans must feel at winning the SPL again must be about on a par with shooting a particularly large fish in a medium sized barrel. With a cannon.

Calm down you lot. God, theres nothing like the mention of the Scotish league to get you ranting away (especially you Sim ;)

Yes, well said Lammy, the "most boring predictable league in the World"TM- one where only two teams ever win the title, with the occasional, and always ultimately unsuccessful bid from a third. How dull. How embarassing. How English....

The frightening thing is that Celtic Park is almost always sold out for this crap week in week out. You can imagine a Celtic fan chatting to his mates in the pub before tomorrow's home banker with Killie Post Office FC "Hope we can scrape a result tomorrow..

er no, it's called glory-hunting actually. They were getting crowds as low as 12,000 in the early 90's when they had such luminaries as Martin Hayes, Stuart Slater and Wayne Biggins (those were the days) gracing the "hallowed" turf.

No it's not. It's easy to turn up when your winning. Celtic were getting 16,000 when they were finishing 4th every season and that was only ten years ago.

I see that Celtic have won 39 league titles and Rangers have won 50 since 1890.

So assuming 7 seasons were lost due to the wars, that means 89 titles out of 107 have been won by two clubs. And you're honestly comparing that to the English set up? ???
