Rising Damp

Can anyone recommend a good damp proofer. We've got rising damp on our lounge wall. Had a quote for £1500 to fix it and someone else who said we just needed some re-pointing done! other people we've contacted either haven't come back to us or they can't do it until next year! I don't think it's a big job but I was hoping the good folks on NSC might know who to get in touch with.

Thanks

Probably more than pointing - could be an issue with the cavity wall.

Anyone contracted should guarantee the work or dont hire them.

This,it`s worth getting a building suveyor to assess the problem and advising on the neccessary remedial works and then inspecting the works in progress and on completion.Does the Buildngs insurance cover this

Definate case for a surveyor. Too many cowboys and you can end up paying and not fixing the problem.
Poor pointing can let in damp but that is penetrating damp.
Rising damp is usually from the foundations and/or damp joists. Rising damp can only travel 1.2 metres upwards and will leave a brown stain at that height on your wall.
Do you live in an old house with solid walls and suspended floor with joists, or a newer house with solid concrete floors and cavity walls, newer houses rarely have rising damp.
Penetrating damp can also be caused by ill fitting window frames or patio door frames, leaking downpipes etc, have a look at the outside and look for any of these in the damp area.

Contact Bensleys or RH Smith in Worthing. Good firms and both have proper guarantee schemes. All the local builders use both of them.
