The last British survivor of the World War Two Dambusters has died at the age of 101.
He was a bomb-aimer in 617 Squadron.
A true hero. Thank you Sir.

Funnily Enough I am currently re-reading the Paul Brickhill Book The Dam Busters. A recommended read BTW

It is probably not realised that 617 Squadron remained a specialist bomber squadron for the rest of the war and took out the V3 (massive gun to lob shells into London) sites and the Tirpitz amongst other targets. Very brave men, not many survived the conflict.

In the late 80s and early 90s as a teen history buff I volunteered at Brooklands museum helping archive some of the old materials and generally doing the running for the chaps restoring the Wellington that had been pulled out of Loch Ness among other restoration projects. At that point it wasn't open to the public really, just very occasional open days or by appointment with limited numbers of visitors. One of the men I worked with a lot was Norman "Spud" Boorer who'd been assistant to Barnes Wallace. Incredible stories of that time and generation, wish I'd taped them.
