Maybe we have had RIPs for minor figures but Garth Hudson certainly wasn't a Z-list celeb. The last remaining member of The Band, he was a consummate musician responsible for some of the most memorable music of the 60s and 70s. He always looked so enigmatic, sitting behind his organ, while his appearance, looking like an old American pioneer or gold prospector, was deliciously old-fashioned.

RIP indeed.

Not sure whether you should like or use the sad emoji for RIP posts, but this is sad news. A really talented musician.
A defining sound for the Band, and of course toured with Dylan on the (in)famous Dylan goes Electric tour (after the events depicted in the new Dylan film)

Good point - a thumbsup could indicate approval of the post, or delight that the bloke is deceased; sad one could be taken two ways too. Short of post after post just saying 'RIP' though, can't see much choice except to use emojis. I've gone for a sad one - hope nobody misinterprets that as an indication of disapproval of the post!

Didn't know Garth Hudson was the last of the band to go, so I'll make this an RIP for all of them.

I have over 40 albums by The Legendary Pink Dots
And dozens by Velvet Acid Christ and Haujobb
I have everything ever released by Peter Hammill and VDGG

But I have never heard a single track by The Band.
Or the Grateful Dead.

This probably means something, but I would imagine that something is very different for different people

Almost impossible, surely?

I mean, I count myself amongst the world's most illiterate and least knowledgeable people when it comes to rock (except perhaps about Zeppelin) but even I have both heard of and heard music made by The Band.

Selective hearing?

This has to be one of their most famous tracks (The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down)

Great band RIP
