Former Chelsea and Newcastle defender has been confirmed to have died in the earthquake that hit Turkey last week. In a real heartbreaking twist apparently he was due to fly to France just before the quake hit but cancelled his ticket at the last moment. RIP

He scored a dramatic winner 7 minutes into injury time for his Turkish club just hours before the earthquake, which makes this even more tragic.

You would have thought a wealthy ex premier league player would have been staying in a building that might have been able withstand the earthquake.

Very sad along with the whole quake disaster. Life has strange twists - if only he'd taken that flight. On the opposite, there was an England cricketer ( can't remember his name ) who was due to go up one of the twin towers on 9/11. He forgot his camera so went back to his hotel to get it .... and doing so saved his life.

Rip to all the thousands who have perished
It has been suggested that far too many buildings there were not built to an appropriate standard. The leadership there is apparently more interested in wheezes, repression and 'foreigners' (Kurds). Ring any bells?

Andreas Orlandi should have been on the flight, that the pilot deliberately crashed into the Alps, but for a timetable mixup.

That's like saying a wealthy person who was driving along the freeway in the USA when it collapsed should have used a different route.

Many of those that designed the buildings are being arrested.

RIP to all

I hate these threads. You didn’t know him or probably knew he was a footballer until recently. It’s utter ‘look at me’ crap.

Then stay off them. Disrespectful and, frankly, disgraceful post.
