No heard of him but vast swathes of popular culture pass me by. Clearly an immense talent though and will be missed

Me too, obviously a talent and very popular RIP.
But I really don't get the club scene, there are thousands of DJs around, some are superstars and they seem to be so much more than DJs, Ibiza and clubs around the Med.
When I was in my late teens and twenties I used to go to a lot of clubs, being into soul, jazz funk etc we went to many different clubs, all dayers and nighters where the DJs spun vinyl.
There was one particular young DJ who people used to flock to see, but I always thought he was quite boring with little charisma and personality, he always played quite obscure records rather than the popular dance music at the time.
All the other DJs have now dissapeared into old age, or died, Chris Hill, Robbie Vincent, Froggy, Steve Walsh, except the one I mentioned above, he is still about and doing quite well, his name? Pete Tong.
Amazing that he has stayed with the club scene and radio, considering that most people of my age no longer get it, understand it or like it.
BTW one of the clubs we went to where Tong often appeared was The Sheffield Arms at Sheffield Park near The Blubell Railway, it was a really good club. Happy Days.

And it was Pete Tong who originally signed Avicii.

A little too close to home for me. My friend's son died at the age of 18 and "Wake Me Up" was one of the songs played at his funeral. I can barely listen to it anyway, think it will be even harder now. RIP.

My son told me that he'd retired but I didn't know that it was because of his health. Thought he'd probably just made more than enough cash and decided to go incognito on doing production, remixes etc.

You have to respect his honesty and bravery. How many people would be so open about it?

I wasn't a big fan of his music but he does sound like he was a good soul. RIP

Never heard that before - that’s superb. Love that he resists going over the top with the orchestra and let’s her keep centre stage.

To be honest never paid him much attention as always assumed he was just another EDM pile of fodder. Checking out some of the tunes on here he obviously had talent. Sad to see he's gone so you. RiP.

Must be a generational thing, I never heard of him though will have a listen.
RIP none the less.
Referring back to the post referencing Pete Tong at the Sheffield Arms, I used to go there with mates back in the day.
The bank holiday garden party was good, where dressing up was part of the entry requirement.
I fell into an alcohol induced sleep in a nearby field and had to walk back to Wivelsfeild Stn the next day in top hat and tails.

Well said. Perhaps the first time we've ever agreed on something. Definitely not my musical cup of tea but I was never his target audience and he clearly had real talent. 28 is no age to leave this world.

Mental illness is a bloody horrible and lonely thing to have.
