Just watching the replays of Mane's goal. Checking for handball and took them an age to hone in on Lallana. Right decision but they haven't a clue how to operate the gear!!!

And apparently if the ref had blown before the ball had gone in the goal wouldn’t have been given....

- I'm wondering whether the bookies are also getting fed up of the impact on this? It must effect cash-out? Maybe they can add some pressure to bin it?

How ANYONE who enjoys football can possibly justify this nonsense any more is beyond me. To the one or two VAR supporters on here - is this really what you go to football to see? Is (supposedly) getting "correct" decisions worth ruining your match going experience. Honestly, I'm not far off giving up - I'll just give Stockley Park a call and ask them the result instead of wasting my time and money.

I do understand your point of view but I go to rugby as well as football and even in rugby I have found the time it takes annoying. The only saving grace is that the replays are on screen for the fans at least.

And I'll add what a pleasure it was to watch Birmingham v Leeds just now. No VAR and I bet, if it had been in operation, half those goals would have been chalked off for some reason.

I wonder if/when a referee will refuse to accept a VAR change and say no I was right ? Some of them need to grow a pair and start using the monitor and not allow the likes of useless Hooper to referee the game in front of his TV

Rugby doesn’t use it for for anything like the EPL offside implementation. Equivalent would be a forward pass I guess, where they watch it a couple of times and unless it’s clearly forward to the naked eye they don’t call it as a foul. They don’t piss about with laser-guided lines the thickness of a gnats chuff to work out whether it was forward or not.

The very very best that can be said is that it needs a huge overhaul at the end of the season. How much longer should the ball have been allowed to bounce around the penalty area for the original cross ceased to be 'current play'? (If there is such a definition - which of course there isn't).

Sadly it would be their last PL match for they have become puppets for the faceless rule makers. Their role has become one of not making any important decisions but they accept that position because they are very well paid for taking no responsibility.

VAR has totally vandalised football. Spontaneous joy has been replaced with uncertainty and frustration. Its sucked the life out of the game, its taking good goals away. Mistakes in realtime are forgivable - mistakes on watching replays are not.

The odd decision VAR gets right is absolutely not worth all the shit that comes with it. I've been against it from the start, but I had no idea just how bad it would get.

Disagree, I think it is the other way round where the refs have the power. They only have to threaten to withdraw their labour and there's no match.

Refs should be miked up and they should do interviews after games to qualify why they make some of the decisions they do but there is no transparency and they cannot be criticized for fear of fines/bans.

Totally agree. The way it’s been implemented in football is just plain wrong. It should be used to identify where it is clear and obvious that a mistake has been made. Where it is in doubt then it should go with the refs decision. Simple really.

It corrects a great many mistakes especially regards tries when both the ref and touch judge are unsighted. IMHO rugby is the better for the video ref and it’s implementation.
