Gus." Dicker is head and shoulders above every one of the other 22 players. Not just head and shoulders but from here to Brighton!"

i did wonder wether a short term deal for Nobby solano might happen if Colchester thing dont come off, just thought he may fancy some south american influence. but i suppose at 35 he may not be the one, just a thought

I think Gus's idea of deadwood will be different to most on here. He obviously rates Navarro & El Abd.

I imagine your idea of "deadwood" is a bit different too.
What are the chances he'll be getting rid of first team players?
More likely he'll bring in some good ones, flog off/let go of ne'er do wells mostly from the stiffs, and then some of the present first-squad will have to jockey for their places back or await injuries to get back in the team.

Thus el-Abd and Navarro will stay, and players like Mcleod and Hawkins will be on their respective bikes.

That makes perfect sense. But does not detract from the fact that a lot of NSCs great & good believe Those 2 are no better than conference, whereas Gus does not.

Yes a lot of NSC'ers will hold differing opinions on "those 2", and several others - including Cox too. Personally I can't agree with a lot of NSC since I have long and still do rate el-Abd - who has been a lot of people's surprising pick for rave reviews of late. Also, I see Cox coming on and running his guts out, making excellent passes, and transforming the midfield - while others have been creating very little. You will see Cox doing chips, and getting into forward positions and making openings that weren't there until he got involved. So, those two players at least would be kept and played if it was up to me.

There are names in the reserves, who have not, and will not make the grade. If Gus brings in anyone decent - then they're NOT going to be getting any closer to playing for us in a progressive future - so, off they jolly-well go.
Hart will make it to the end of the season, and Nicky Forster will likely see out the rest of his playing career with us, but many are now bottom-drawer and should really do themselves a professional favour and head for the Division 2 teams to try and get at least some 1st-team action. What's good for the goose, is good for the goslings!

One things for sure, we didn't bring Gus Poyet to this club to weigh him down shackled with dead-weights that will never buoy him or us to a higher surface. If Tony Bloom can have his way with his (and our) football club, he will be saying "Gus please do whatever you think is necessary to get us the right players for success. Constraints are only wage-comparable to the rest of the squad, and we don't want to pay over the odds if players aren't worthy or capable. Weed out the surplus to requirements, it's all yours".
If that's not been said, or something close to it - then I will be quite surprised.
I imagine there would have been something like that alluded to in the half-time chat, too.
Players should be playing for their very careers, every week.
If not - then they are not what we need, or want at Brighton and Hove Albion.

I agree with pretty much all of that. One thing I don't get though, how the hell are we going to get rid of the likes of Hawkins and McLeod? Paying them off means Bloom takes a massive hit. Surely Port Vale can't take them all?

Because he is injured Hawkins will stay (unless we buy out his contract).
McLeod and Livermore will surely go and one suspects Virgo too while Tunnicliffe's absence today indicates he may be on his way (up presumably?).
Hoyte's loan to end plus maybe Davies to go and Hart - not sure about him as he is pretty useful as cover so may stay.

So by my reckoning 6 or 7 to go plus some of the kids from the reserves to non-league clubs if we can offload them

oh and smith. I forgot smith - it's almost as if he had already gone :(

Could it be the 3 from Spurs posted on another thread Calum Butcher central defender currently on loan at Barnet, Andross Townsend at Orient and John Obika at Yeovil all due back this week. Apparently Harry wants them to press on a bit with another Div 1 side.

Do you know if they are loans or permanent?
