Anyway let's move away from the Solly March topic for now. It's obvious some people rate him and others don't have a scooby about football. Rico Henry, any updates?

Admittedly, haven’t seen much of him but from what I have he’s a good championship player but would hope we could do better. Rico not March! Although I wouldn’t give Solly a glowing reference at PL level either.

The issue with Solly is he has clearly shown over he last 3 seasons that he is not good enough to be an attacking player in the PL due to his inability to consistently beat his man and/or deliver a good cross. He is a bit more suited at the LWB position due to his impressive defensive work, but these attributes still apply to a wing back.

While he is a decent player to have around as he can provide plenty of cover, he is clearly the weak link in what you could call our starting 11 and the position that needs prioritising in the window IMO.

I agree with pretty much every word. Feel like Solly is a bit under appreciated though. If he could cross accurately it would help his cause. Ironically his best cross was an accidental goal which took us to pens against Millwall.

Watching Glenn's farewell video from the club, it was Solly that put in the cross for Glenn's flicked goal vs Man Utd, so it's not a case of him never getting a decent cross in; but I suppose it's just not frequent enough.

Fair point. How many times have we seen him beat a defender then put in a cross that the BFG would struggle to get a head on though.. He's actually an excellent footballer but the assists and goals numbers don't back it up. He reads the game beautifully rarely makes defensive mistakes. Always seems to choose the right passing option, can dribble well. Links up with the central midfielders and pace wise can keep up with 95 percent of the league. Would love to see him whip in more clever crosses like the Murray goal and perhaps have a pop from distance every now and then like he used to in the champ.

Personally I rate him.

Premier League attacking player who's played mostly in a defensive system.. It's not uncommon for a defender to score more than a winger.. Dunk got roughly the same amount of goal contributions as Zaha last season. If you don't think Solly March is a good footballer then you don't really know your stuff. He clearly needs to do more going forward and has been underwhelming at premier league level. However, we could have far worse players on the bench.
I don’t understand football ??? Do you know how many big chances he created last season ??? ONE he’s played wing back, winger, attacking midfielder Lamptey on the other hand created seven.

With Solly as with Ali J, Pascal, Trossard, I believe the main reason they've all struggled to a greater or lesser degree is we don't get enough men in the box.

Every time someone looks up, they are looking at 1 or at best 2 to pick out with 4 or 5 men back. The odds are stacked against any of them looking good. We don't have midfielders who can get up there. This is why we're constantly recycling the ball around the edge of the box and find it hard to unpick well drilled teams despite good possession and good territory.

Agree, we rarely load the box when the chance is on

i watch every game home and away on the tv , we as a team are capable of rapid transition but when the ball is taken down either wing 9 times out of 10 you are looking at 1 against 2 or 3 in the middle , the result then is the ball is recycled back to midfield and often back to Ryan ....posession is one thing , lack of penetration is another and yes i was being nice ....solly's final product is often pants as was bongs....so that left us with piss poor options down the left , hopefully he can link up with lamptey,a completely different and exciting proposition , we'll see.

I'm pretty much at every game home and away and I don't think I've ever seen Solly burst at rapid speed down the wing. He'll use a burst of speed to get past a defender but he's never sprinting more than about 10 metres.

Bar Gross’s cruyff turns in his first season, when have any of them beaten a man?? THIS is why they are struggling. All good footballers but not quick enough. Add McCalister to that. We NEED pace badly.

That accidental goal that was palmed in by the goalie! Terrible cross from Solly. Last minute of the match and us needing a goal and he effectively crossed the ball out of play!

We need both, the players that more skillful that can find the pass to the pacey players and the pace for other situations. You can say we've also had 'pace' players that can beat a player but can't put a good ball in.

Yes but my point is we don’t have both. Apart from Lamptey from right back (when he plays) and Conelly (when he plays), we don’t have pace.

More recently than that, it was Solly’s run and cross that set up Dunks equaliser at home to Arsenal.

He’s got the ability. It’s a mental issue for Solly. Lacks confidence and makes bad decisions on final balls at times. I’m still confident theres more to come from him and wouldn’t be disappointed if he started the season as our first choice LWB.

March is nowhere near good enough, recognising this does not equate to "not knowing your stuff". I cannot understand what anyone sees in him. Decent in the championship to be fair to him, which is without a doubt the level he should be playing at.
