That's a bugger. Feels like we've gotten a little sleepy re: transfers.

However good we think our transfer business is we are picking from a smaller and smaller pool as the window goes on, and where strikers are concerned you have to think we’ll be down to our 5th - 10th choice the later we leave it and paying more than we’d like in the end too.

I suspect we might be looking at strikers we hadn't even heard of at the start of the window!
Lewis would have been a great signing. Steal under £20 million.

If we don't sign anyone lve sorted it out for GP.
Lamptey attacking right side
Veltman defensive right side
March defensive left side
Dan Burn Centre forward
Sorted!

Taking into account Dan Burn’s efforts when he is in front of goal I think that would give us another Barn Door/Cow’s arse/Banjo forward

These aren't the players you're looking for.

This is true, but the difference between our 5th choice striker and our number one target may not be quality, just price.

If Darwin was our prime target, it may have been because we thought we could get him for £20m.

Having missed out, we may have to spend more on someone like Odsonne Edouard, who is reportedly as good or better.

We may have to blow the budget on a striker, at the expense of missing out on a LWB.

Four options here.

1. We’ve never been after him but are close to someone similar (Like Henry).
2. We’re not after anyone and March (or BDB or Bernardo) is the man for LWB.
3. We’re after someone much better like Ait-Nouri, Tagliafico or Gaya.
4. We were after him and he has chosen the Toon over us.

I am convinced that getting a quality striker is likely to be the difference between another relegation threatened season and mid table mediocrity. I am not overly hopeful of us landing a decent one though. We may be a more desirable club for midfielders and defenders these days but I think quality strikers still want to go to a bigger club than us, which puts us on the back foot every time and is likely to cost us more than it should. We are traditionally absolutely shit at bringing them through at the club but it seems Connolly may buck that trend.

I thought last season regarding depth of strikers in the squad was bad enough, with one week from the start of the season and being down to two, borders on incompetence in my view

By all accounts Darwin was set on Benfica nothing we can do about that.

And mine. It is surely ridiculous that we let Muzza go without anyone incoming

Every year. Every single year.

I thought it signalled something had already been sorted. Clearly not, unless there's a reason for it remaining unannounced- seems unlikely.

But why aren’t we advanced on plan B or C or D? It is vital we get a striker in. We talk of top 10 but act like a team set for a relegation fight again
