Weird he is down as a midfielder but scored 27 goals last season for Dundalk.
Did they play him as a striker then at Dundalk ?
That would be some sort of world record for a midfield player to score 27 goals in one season wouldn't it ?

Connor's the perfect case in example. Towell needs to play games in England and our present squad (injuries permitting) are going to keep him out this season. He still sounds an exciting prospect to me.

He played centre midfield for Dundalk. About 15 of those were penalties and free kicks, but its still very impressive. The next top scorer in the league scored about 14 in total.

Pleased he's getting game time. A loan sounds a good move. Shame its not league One - succeeding in L2 won't really tell us enough.

I agree League 2 isn't high enough should go to a league 1 club, maybe they have looked at him and had second thoughts about him and want to offload him already who knows.
I cant see him getting fit enough for the Championship playing for Bristol Rovers.

Or maybe Bristol Rovers came to us and asked, and no League 1 clubs have? I don't think we can conclude that a team being interested in him on loan means we don't want him anymore

He played as an attacking midfielder, I don't know if 27 goals was just league goals or in all competitions but that number of goals in a season isn't that unheard of, Lampard and Gerrard in their best seasons must have been close to that number from midfield. I am sure there are plenty of attacking midfielders who get that many goals in other tin pot leagues in countries like Scotland.

If you look at the official site he's down as a midfielder and a defender! Even weirder.

Shocked at some of the idiotic comments in here. A loan move to a league 2 club is a perfectly natural progression for him & us after a move from the Irish league. Chill ffs! He needs time to adapt to the English league...

It seems a bit harsh to write someone off who has only played 1 game in a make shift side in a half competitive game.

Good move. Gets him match fit and we can see if he can score goals in England.
Back here to experience the play-offs then hit the ground running for next pre-season.

Seems pretty simple to me - Sidwell became available and we got him. Sidwell is a proven quality player. Towell isn't and is pushed out.
