Hypothetically speaking if a club was to sign a player on a season long loan then at around the mid point in the season the club decided that the player really wasn't much good could they return the player or are they stuck with said player till the end of the season?

Indeed we had a discussion about aerodynamics and drag coefficients when we had that good break away in the second half and then he inexplicably played the ball behind his teammate. The conclusion was a less scientific conclusion of utter gash and £25k a week wasted on Alice bands!
