If you're in Birmingham I'd heartily recommend Mr Egg, can't beat it for all things eggs.

Also if you're ever down in this part of the woods the Pilot Boat takes sime beating for top notch pub grub from an award winning chef.

I'd also recommend Al Frash if you're in Birmingham and fancy a decent indian. And rev up on some top-notch craft at Brewdog Brum before hand.

Going back to Chilli Pickle die Frau said she was not impressed with it. She said the price was too high and the actual building/restaurant itself was not a pleasing environment to eat food. She said she also has a bit of an issue with 'posh indian.'

The China Palace in Worthing does decent dim sum,

I never knew this. Love Dim Sum but only really have it in London. What's the score? Do they do it every day etc ?

I think they only serve it on the first floor, but every day. There is a reasonable sized selection. Some are good, some merely okay. Dim Sum traditionally is breakfast or lunch, give it a try and see what you think. It is the best I have found locally.

Chilli pickle is brilliant (and reasonable) for lunch with the Thalis and wraps and things. It is too expensive in the evening for what it is though

Saffrons Indian restaurant - Lewes road
Went to Saffrons the other night. Again excellent food, well priced. Chef came out to assist my mother in law in choosing her dish (she has a gluten alergy and is quite a fussy eater).

Its not posh, nor is it large, however IMO the best indian restaurant in the city.

5 star, look forward to going back there.

I finally succumbed to Days, but will not be returning. A horrendous place. The food was vile, salty and I've never been to a Chinese restaurant that sells pizza until last night.

Possibly great value, if you don't mind eating tonnes of oil/salt and have an iron stomach.

Ne'er shall return to that abomination of cuisine.

If you find yourself Weymouth way as I did last weekend head away from the town to Overcombe corner and head to the crappily named Oasis cafe. Cafe by day, top restaurant by night . Apart from being tended to by no less than 4 different waitresses, which I didn't like, the seafood was unbelievably fantastic. Seared scallops with black pudding crumble for starters, simple but delicious fillet of seabass for mains, coffee and bottle of lovely white, was with my Grandma, she had starter, main and desert, all came in at 62 quid and a really friendly place away from the hairgels who populate Weymouth town bars. Although the Harbour is lovely at night.

I went to Efes, a Turkish restaurant in Worthing, last week. Not bad at all. Be a bit careful what you order, portion size wasn't too big on mine, though others seemed to have more. I had the mixed shish, lamb and chicken and was very nice, but not a lot of it.

Would probably go back thiugh.

Last night went to The Schooner on the coast road by Southwick Marina. Had heard it had been done out and was very impressed. Good range of beers including Porter and craft beer, small but very decent wine range.

There were six of us, three couples, catching up, one of whom is pregnant. She ordered her steak medium to well because of this but reported it was still really tasty and tender. The salt cod was apparently 'awesome' and I had a delicious blackened duck dish, the burnt crispy skin working really well with the soft, tender meat. My friends said the squid in their starter of squid and pork belly was a little over cooked but my crab pasta with mussels was bang on, perfectly balanced.

Bill was circa £30 per head with 5 of us getting fairly well oiled and one not drinking (obvs). VERY good value. The overcooked calamari aside the only complaint I have is that they have squeezed the menu on a one, two-sided, A4 page. In doing so they've had to use a small font which in the dark basement is a little hard to read.

Nevertheless we'll be back, probably a lot. There is literally nothing like it until you get to Shoreham travelling west or Hove east. Craft beer withing a stone's throw of Fishersgate Rec? Who'd have thought it. Does need to be supported by the locals too as not much parking.

I will have to give this a try. I always thought this had the potential to be a great venue. I have been in a few times over the years and never seen it come close to that.

Went to the Mahaan last night but as near to it that looks a pretty decent menu. Did you book and was the wine reasonably priced ?

Yes my mate booked it a while back. We wanted to go for a meal when we all got back from holidays so he booked quite a while in advance but nor sure if you need to. We had a bottle of Crianza which would have been around £20 from working back - we divided the bill equally and I can't remember the precise cost and it's not on their website. The menu on that is also slightly out of date dish wise but correct price and atmosphere wise http://www.the-schooner.com/menu/

Went to Giraffe finally last night, not bad but the menu and decor has changed recently according to Mrs Hut who went there a few months back.

Nice meal but they do only appear to do burgers now.
