[Albion] Rest Players vs Newcastle?

Well, if they're is an agreement not to play Minteh against Newcastle this season we will find out on Sunday.

But I would expect Wieffer, Ayari to start and maybe Adingra
For loan players, not playing against the parent club is the norm, but once signed on full terms a player belongs to the new club who can chose when to play / not play them.

Just imagine if such a clause existed. No White or Trossard in the Arse games, no Bissoma v spuds, no Mac Alister v Liverpool and a cricket score v Chelsea reserves ...

i think we have to rest a few and give a few much needed game time.

I would make 6 or 7 changes.

3 weeks ago i would have said play strongest 11. Things change quickly.
I think we make our changes in the game now. I think it's important to keep the continuity going, now way would I make 6 or 7 changes, maybe 2 or 3. Anyone that needs resting can get pulled after 60/70 minutes depending on how the game is going.

Newcastle are a weird side, they were really flat against Liverpool last night and yet they are capable of ripping teams apart very quickly particularly at home. If we get the flat version Sunday we have a huge opportunity to progress.

Very unlikely Newcastle would prioritise the FA Cup over pushing for a Champions League place I'd have thought.
Yeah, that’s a completely fair point and in all honesty as much as I don’t want to wish an injury on anyone I hope he doesn’t play Sunday!

With the Toon playing Liverpool away yesterday, I just had a thought that if there was a game where you are likely to drop 3 points anyway, it may have made sense to spare him that game in favour of the others. Also maybe gives an edge to be able to bring him on in the Carabao final without them having spent 90 minutes practicing how to shut him out last night.

But agree with you - they have surely got to be doing all they can to climb into the CL places at this point!

Agreed on all counts. Two things on this.
First, the game could go to extra time, so expect a lot of players to play about 60 minutes each if it does.
Second, Newcastle are a little erratic, not unlike us. And that's because they've had injuries and play with intensity (if you saw from c10 mins to 48 mins against Forest, you'll have seen them at their best) -- like both us and Bournemouth.

Will their philosophy be any different to ours? They only have one point more than us?
I was commenting on the likelihood of Newcastle resting a player from a league game, so he could be fresher to play against us in the cup. We wouldn't do this, so I agree their philosophy would almost certainly be the same.

We have a week between this and Fulham, loads of recovery time. Plus, let's not forget the importance of momentum. Beating Chelsea in the FA Cup with a strong side kickstarted this run, and I expect us to go with a strong side again, maybe rotating the midfield and front players?

Verbruggen
Lamptey JPVH Webster (Dunk, if fit) Estupinan
Weiffer Hinshelwood
Gruda O'Riley Mitoma
Welbeck or Pedro

We're third in the form table.

Since Jan 1st, we've W4 D1 L2 (and in the last 10, we're W4 D4 L2)

I'm not sure it did. From 30th December........

Villa (a) Draw
Arsenal (h) Draw
Ipswich (a) Win
Everton (h) Loss
Forest (a) Loss
Chelsea (h) Win
Saints (a) Win
Bournemouth (h) Win
I think we were already in decent form, and the Forest game was an abberation.

With Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all OUT of the FA Cup, it would be CRIMINAL too not be giving everything we can to get through Sunday's game.
100%. It's a really open Cup now. This does of course mean that them up the road also have an excellent chance of winning it - and they have an easier fixture on paper than us.

It's not going to be their year is it? No, of course not ..........
