As I said during the debates on In / Out back in the day, I expect there to be a list of potential managerial options on Barber’s desk ready to be acted on if Graham leaves / is sacked / gets abducted by aliens and the club will have done their homework. They clearly do it for players, no reason to expect they haven’t done the same for managers, it’s what professional organisations do.

If he's still here in a year I'll be delighted. Probably one of two things will have happened, we either end up underwhelming into a bottom half finish, or he fancies staying on when we're in Europe.

As to his replacement, it has to be a continuity candidate in terms of tactical nous and personality, not an easy combination as Potter seems very unique.

Part of me would love us to be the first side to employ a female manager, whether Emma Hayes or Sabrina Wiegman. They just feel like a good fit to me.

Plenty of women's teams have male managers and some are amongst the most successful in the game.

I stopped playing local football at 36 (probably to a round of applause,as i was never any good) but i joined a local cricket team and had some remarkable success,who`d of guessed ?. But while i could bowl pretty reasonably against players of the same quality,when a friend got me a couple of games in a higher league i was out of my depth .I believe the higher you have played and the tougher the opposition the more workable knowledge you gain .You have to be there see it and have done it ,not just seen it at a lower level and think that qualifies you at any level . Whether you or i like it or not ,the men`s game is a completely different animal to the women`s game .

As you have said plenty of the women`s teams managers are men and some are successful,some obviously not,but i wouldn`t want any of the successful men to be our next manager either . I think it is a case of horses for courses in our great game .
