Anyone know if there are any loopholes in the 14-day wait?

Mine is out of date at start of march and i plan to go on holiday on 26th February, it's only come up at the last minute, not poor planning (for once).

Could i drive somewhere to get it renewed quicker?

Please help :(

any passport office in the country will do it for you in four hours if you are prepared to pay 96 quid

Would there be one in sussex?

How much would it cost normally?

Whatever you do, do not, repeat NOT, entrust it to 'Special Mail Services'. You'll take a day off work, wait in from 8 in the morning til 6 at night, then find a 'We called but you were out' note on your doorstep. No, really. Pay whatever it takes to keep it out of their evil clutches.

A friend of mine got an emergency passport as he was flying to Tanzania the following day. He had a bit of a mission in London, but got it through. I think it cost him a bit more.....

There is one a short stroll from Victoria, but you do need an appointment and they won't let you in until 15 mins beforehand either
