Hmmm.. depends whereabouts the new station's gonna be. If it's where the original Shoreditch Station is, they should just rename it Brick Lane, seeing as it's on it. But Banglatown?!! Why not Currynation Street?! :shootself

the name changes on the underground are very interesting - there was loads of changes before the wars.

what was the most recent name change? ... euston road to warren street maybe?

Surrey Docks to Surrey Quays in 1989, after the construction of the shopping centre.

There will be a renaming later this year, Shepards Bush Market, to replace the Shepherds Bush on H/C line and avoid the confusion with the Central Line one.

i used to live right by the market station - always though 'loftus road' had a good shout, shepards bush market is fitting though!

surrey docks was better.

thanks bigc.

And what a symbol of poncification that was. And don't get me started on "Canada" Water. Why the hell didn't the new station pay some sort of tribute to the Norwegian heritage of the area?

My family (grandparents, mother and even me for a bit) lived next door to the Surrey Docks main entrance for 50 years.

Not to be taken too seriously, I remember the bloke asking for Aldgate East to be changed last time.

Well I've heard rumours they may rename it back when it reopens in 2009/2010.

Still I guess that symbolised the 1980s, hundred years of history foresaken for linking up with the name of a SHOPPING CENTRE.

Should have called it Albion Dock station as it's location is by the side of where that dock used to be isn't it?
