Reid Itching For Pre-Season!
By Tim Dudding
Paul Reid has agreed a new one year contract and says he is itching to get back into action when the players report back on 2nd July.
While most footballers around the country will be dreading the prospect of their pre-season preparations, the versatile Australian admits he just wants to put last season's injury nightmare behind him.
Reid's season effectively ended at Carlisle in September when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Having completed his rehabilitation before the end of the season, the 27-year-old hoped to enjoy some match action with the reserves, but then damaged ankle ligaments shortly after returning to training.
Reid told seagulls.co.uk, "There is always a doubt in the back of your mind as to whether you're going to get another year or not, so I'm delighted to agree a new contract.
"It was a frustrating season. I was really looking forward to the whole season, and felt I was playing well before I got injured.
"The main thing now is to get fit. Most footballers don't like pre-season, but for the likes of myself, Charlie Oatway and Adam Hinshelwood, who have been out for a long time, any kind of football is good for us - even if it's just running with the other lads!"
Albion boss Dean Wilkins said, "In a way it will be like signing a new player. I think the injury will make him come back a stronger person, and in turn I think he can have a big influence.
"You do a lot of thinking when you're out for so long, and it makes you appreciate things even more.
"Physically I'm sure he'll be fine, and he's really looking forward to the challenge."
Chairman Dick Knight added, "Now that Paul has recovered from a serious injury we're looking forward to him having a full season and re-establishing himself back in the side."
