Reid Itching For Pre-Season!

By Tim Dudding

Paul Reid has agreed a new one year contract and says he is itching to get back into action when the players report back on 2nd July.

While most footballers around the country will be dreading the prospect of their pre-season preparations, the versatile Australian admits he just wants to put last season's injury nightmare behind him.

Reid's season effectively ended at Carlisle in September when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Having completed his rehabilitation before the end of the season, the 27-year-old hoped to enjoy some match action with the reserves, but then damaged ankle ligaments shortly after returning to training.

Reid told seagulls.co.uk, "There is always a doubt in the back of your mind as to whether you're going to get another year or not, so I'm delighted to agree a new contract.

"It was a frustrating season. I was really looking forward to the whole season, and felt I was playing well before I got injured.

"The main thing now is to get fit. Most footballers don't like pre-season, but for the likes of myself, Charlie Oatway and Adam Hinshelwood, who have been out for a long time, any kind of football is good for us - even if it's just running with the other lads!"

Albion boss Dean Wilkins said, "In a way it will be like signing a new player. I think the injury will make him come back a stronger person, and in turn I think he can have a big influence.

"You do a lot of thinking when you're out for so long, and it makes you appreciate things even more.

"Physically I'm sure he'll be fine, and he's really looking forward to the challenge."

Chairman Dick Knight added, "Now that Paul has recovered from a serious injury we're looking forward to him having a full season and re-establishing himself back in the side."

Good news, wonder if we have an option for another year or an appearance clause?

Great news if true, hopefully with an additional year option [the club's option]

It just popped up on the Albion 'news ticker' thing that i downloaded from the official site.

Can't actually see the article on the site yet - strange!

Great stuff. The team is shaping up nicely, I think.
I agree with that, if Bertin signs I will be pretty confident about next season. We could still do with a proven scorer but if Savage can keep up his form, and Elder plays like he did vs Cheltenham, we may not need one...

I would hope that he has an additional one year option as well.

run that one past me.

Team is shaping up nicely.

As at today, we have "resigned" players ( apart from Reid who has not played for 6 months odd) whith who we struggled to stay in teh 3rd division!!!!

Lets wait and see if Whing signs and we get better players in before we can sayt it shaping up nicely

I bow to your knowledge, but I was told you cant sign anyone before the 1st July when contracts are set
The contract is set, the 1st is when his registration will officially be transferred to us from Coventry.

Whing was released wasn't he? That would make him a free agent thus being able to sign anytime!
