[Misc] Regrettable financial decisions

Following on from the best bargain thread, what is the worst thing you have sold / situation where you have lost money.

You cant talk about the obvious ones i.e divorce, negative equity in a house, stock market crash or casino cock up.

I once sold a redundant bit of hifi, I went to Richer sounds in London Road to buy an interconnect for my CD player and hoped to trade in an old record player. they said they wouldn't take it but the sales man said he would privately so I sold it to him for £10 out of my boot. At the time I was delighted but in retrospect I realize why he was so sweaty. It was a Thorens 250 mk 2 with an SME tonearm 3009 and an Ortofon Stylus. Worth Several hundred pounds today I bet he went back into the shop and laughed his head off at my expense.

I also had a TVR Griffith which I hadn't used for years and it had all seized up so I put on ebay. A guy couldn't pick it up quick enough with a cash deal at £4500 and a trailer to take it away the next day. I was contacted by someone a couple of days later who was confused as it had appeared elsewhere for £12000. the first guy obviously flipped it while laughing his head off at my expense.

When young and down on my luck, I decided to sell some of my graphic novels.
I got £30 for issues 1 - 38 of Akira.

Went back to comic shop a week later to see them on the wall for £5 each.

Without a shadow of a doubt, selling my entire vinyl collection for 25 quid. I've felt like going back in time & slapping that version of me around the head with a big wet fish!
I was moving & thought the time had come to just get rid. Collection was from early 70's through to 2007. Fair play to the guy that bought it; tucked me right up.

Could have sold just some of my Cairn Energy shares in 2007 and paid off my mortgage. Sadly, like everyone else, never saw the financial crash of 2008 coming. Will never understand how many more of those selfish ignorant banking swine went to jail. They nicked your grandma's pension as surely as if they'd nicked her handbag. Total ****s.

Interesting, when was this? About 6 years ago we couldn't give away a vinyl collection from a similar vintage. Record dealers and even the charity shops said there were so many collections of a similar ilk that were being swapped for digital or following house clearances where the collector had died

Buying a 40" TV from Richer Sounds for about £900. My wife went mad about the huge (at that time) TV, so it went back an hour later. The c*nts charged a £150 "de-boxed" charge, even though I bought a new TV off of them straight away.

Lost some sizeable hotel deposits and flight costs over the years, after changes of plans.

The other half got a £30 gift voucher for M&S at Christmas, and I accidentally put it on the fire with the wrapping. Being a plastic card all we could do was watch it quickly curl up and melt.

Pulling the car keys out of my front pocket I didn't realize there had been a £50 note in that pocket and was gone when I stuck my hand in later.

I bought my first property when I was 20, so was pretty naive on the financial ins and outs, and was subsequently sold an endowment policy for an interest only mortgage.

I did late try and claim for miss selling, but didn't get anywhere, as the Company who sold to to me conveniently closed down / changed it's name and then continued to trade.

Chased the dream by investing shares in x 3 Oil exploration companies in the last 5 years or so. All failed and subsequently lost £50,000 !!!

However I have been very lucky to have inherited just over £450,000 in the last 12 months so I've been able to put those losses well behind me and now sleep very well.
