Looked like he was about to burst into tears whilst explaining himself to the camera's at the end of the game.

If he ever takes charge of a leauge game again then i'll be supprised.

Oh I don't know. Prosser is still going strong.

As Neil Warnock says these amateurs affect players and manager's livelihoods.

I don't suppose Warnock was quite so livid at the time Paddy kenny wasn't sent off when Sheff U had no sub keeper on the bench.

Though even Warnock admitted that Given should have gone.

The camera didn't show his face but the commentator did say that Jagielka was getting ready to go in goal.

They had a sub off the bench ready as well.

BBC website quotes from both managers.

# Reading manager Steve Coppell:
"The decision not to send off their goalkeeper Paddy Kenny off changed the whole tone of the match.

"Virtually everyone in the stadium - Reading fans, neutrals and Sheffield United fans - would have thought it was an automatic red card for handling outside his area, and the referee got it wrong.

"The match was distorted from then on, because it would have been a totally different game - especially as United didn't have a reserve keeper on the bench.

"Last year people said that if teams stopped Dave Kitson, they stopped us.

"But I hope we have a bit more firepower from different areas now. Brynjar Gunnarsson ghosted in very nicely for both goals - and it was a really good feeling when the ball went in."

# Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock:
"The referee will be embarrassed when he sees his decision not to give a penalty when James Harper fouled Keith Gillespie.

"As for being reported to the Football Association, you get used to these things - but it isn't me that should be reported.

"I don't understand why we don't have top-class referees for games like these.

"No disrespect to Grant Hegley, but there have been Premiership referees at nothing games in this league this season, so why not today when it was first against second?

"I told Grant that if he wants to go to the top as a referee, he will have to make tough decisions in front of crowds of 40,000 and 50,000 at Anfield and Old Trafford."

I think the article you pasted says that everyone expected him to be off.

My point was really that it was a bit rich for him and Stuart McCall to be sounding off at the ref at the end of the game about the obvious penalty when they had a much more influential decision go for them earlier in the game. The only thing they'll get from it is some kind of disciplinary action I would imagine.

You would also like to think that ref would get some kind of action against him but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Personally I think all League referees should be professional and have regular assessments.
When there is a dreadful decision like that then a panel should discipline the ref by suspending him for 'two games' on half pay.
There's enough video evidence nowadays.

Maybe it happens already, I don't know, but it would also be good for it to be made public when a ref has been disciplined in the way it is when managers and players are. Just so that everyone can see that something is happening.

This is why a lot of people think Warnock is a complete cock, what is a nothing game exactly?. Surely every game deserves a competant referee not just those involving Sheffield Utd.

Two absolutely shocking decisions from the ref, but as ever I expect he will be protected and allowed to go on as usual.
