Anyone else been keenly following the progress of the 2011 BT Red Nose Desert Trek??

Great to see celebrities such as Lorraine Kelly, Dermot O'Leary, Nadia Swahalia and Scott Mills brave 100 degree heat, sunstroke and over 20 different types of snake to trek 100 miles across the Kenyan desert. A fantastic cause and I hope you have donated plenty.

Donated NOTHING and never will,,,

I despise Lenny Henry..( with a passion) and I also despise the "celebs" doing good things...!! why dont they just cough up cash?

They dont spend weeks trekking across deserts. try seeing them in 5* luxury before and after the event at the charities expense..

Red nose day? shove it.......box rattling on the street for cancer research they get a couple of quid.

Is the wrong answer.

Comic Relief raises millions for fantastic causes both in the UK and Africa, these celebrities have offered their time and are an inspiration to many of us, hence why they've raised such a fantastic amount for this trek. We get to catch up on their day on Radio 1 both in the mornings and evenings. Well done celebs keep up the good work, you can do it!!

To be honest crodo, they've missed a trick by not involving Lenny Henry, Dawn French, Ben Elton, Jennifer Saunders and whole host of other celebrities we simply haven't seen enough of over the past 20 years.

Luckily there is a whole raft of new celebs to take their place like Ferne Cotton and Chris Moyles who are the new loveable parts of the furniture in modern British pop culture. And seeing as none of them are taking part in this trek, hopefully we'll see them attempt some other lame charity effort soon, where they can pretend they're achieving a fitness miracle with the luxury and comfort of their supporting crew of fitness experts, physios, dieticians, caravan housekeepers and film crew, numbering about 35 in total.

IT IS THE ONLY ANSWER YOU WILL GET FROM ME>>>>SO DO NOT TRY AND TELL ME IT IS THE WRONG ANSWER

How much of your pocket money will you DONATE? DONATE means to give voluntarily....

My charity giving as I have said to to charities that I feel make a difference....not Red Nose Day

cancer, diabetic, and medical type charities are my choice.

Red Nose day and comic relief are just good excuses for me to go out and donate to my other favorite charity....The curry house...

So you keep your " celebrity crush / watch " going BUT dont try and tell others they are wrong because they dont agree with you.

Walkers crisps getting involved tells you a lot about the exposure Red Nose day offers. These celebrities crave publicity - and here they get full prime-time exposure. Doing it for charidee ? Those that started it were for sure - now ? Well we are all old enough to make out own judgement.

If it weren't for these celebrities Red Nose Day would raise nowhere near the amount it does. Good on them for getting out of their comfort zone and being an inspiration for us all in this trek across some of the most inhospitable conditions on Earth.

As the fifth and final day of the BT Red Nose Desert Trek begins, emotions are running high as the team fear that they won’t all make it to the end.

Feeling battered, bruised and exhausted, with their feet in tatters, yesterday was the most gruelling day of the challenge so far as the celebrity trekkers covered 28 kilometres in sizzling temperatures as high as 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

TV’s Dermot O’Leary said: “There’s no two ways about it, this has been an awful lot harder than I imagined it would be. The sheer physical effort required to walk 100 kilometres in this heat is extraordinary.”
Today, the team are on the final leg of the trek – but they’re on their last legs too, feeling drained of all their energy.

Yet they’re continuing to push on as they head towards a sight camp where they’ll meet people living within the desert region who have medical conditions which are causing them to lose their sight. At the mobile clinic, these people will be able to get treatment enabling them to see more clearly again.

The celebrity team’s incredible efforts will raise money to help people living unimaginably tough lives both across Africa and the UK, and in particular they will be highlighting the issue of avoidable blindness. Money they raise will go to Comic Relief projects which include those that help to prevent thousands of people in Africa from going blind or contracting terrible, debilitating eye conditions like trachoma, something which affects many people living in the region where the trek is taking place.

Every minute, a child goes blind somewhere in the world and the effect is truly devastating. Tragically, up to fifty per cent of all children who lose their sight will die within two years. What makes these figures even more astonishing is that eighty per cent of all blindness is preventable and just £5 could pay for a sight-saving operation for someone in Africa who’s suffering from trachoma.

To see the trekkers to the finish line, please sponsor them now!
